Panthers interested in Bulger and Delhomme...

Recommended Posts

Coach Ron Rivera said the Panthers are very much in the hunt for a veteran free agent quarterback, but wouldn’t say for whom. A source said the Panthers want Marc Bulger, but the free agent from Baltimore is still holding out hope of getting a shot to start somewhere else. He could change his mind. Jake Delhomme also remains in play, a source said. It sounds like the Panthers are waiting to see what Bulger will do first.

So we get rid of Kasay because we don't want to waste an extra roster spot for a KOS, but are willing to waste a roster spot on incompetent QBs that will never contribute? If we're going that route, how about one that's from a Coryell system so that he would actually be worth a damn and could help Cam.

I would much prefer Bulger over Delhomme, and realistically Bulger shouldn't be targeted as a starter by any team. But there are plenty of teams out there that could use Bulger, I hope we could snag him.

And, of course, I would welcome Jake back. We all know Cam is the starter, so its not like bringing Jake in means Jake starts. He had his time as a starter. But I believe he can be a solid back up, as well as act as a mentor. Jake was known for competitiveness, as well as being calm and cool under pressure. These are traits that would be an asset for Cam.

And honestly, the QB this year, aside from Cam, doesn't really have an excuse to not get something done. There are so many weapons available on the offense that even Jake, Jimmy, or Bulger have no excuse what-so-ever. Cam does, because he is a rookie and has the least "pro" experience out of the other possible starters.

Its all good, but we do need that vet QB to solidify the QB position. I really have no faith in Jimmy, so it has to happen.

Kasay has pulled us through a lot of tough situations and still could have continued doing so. The reasoning behind releasing him though was becasue of that extra roster spot that would be wasted on a KOS (although I think Baker or Kasay could've handled it themselves). And what the hell would any of those QBs mentor on that our QB coach can't? How to run up a hill? They're not even from the same system.

    • I surprisingly like this pick, I think he makes the team as well in the next couple years.
    • Why I put him with Ghosty on the third line. He can focus defensively while ES. If needed can play PP2 in a pinch but id have him focus solely on defense and leave him off the PP in favor of Nikishin. 3rd pairing and PK minutes with 15-17m of ice time seems perfect.
    • This is a damn good deal. He can score buckets, shoot the ball from 3.    Can back up Ball or play the 2 since Ball has size and the teams 1-4 gives defensive versatility. (Even if it's not good versatility, lol)  Dunno if they start him or have him come off the bench as the first reserve behind Ball and Green/ Kon at the two.   Makes Green expendable for another trade though.
