3 Players

Name 3 players you will be keeping a close eye on this preseason and why they have the potential to make a big impact

Me:

David Gettis

If Gettis can keep up what he was doing last year while still improving, I don't see why he can't become a perennial pro bowler in the near future. We need him, Olsen, and Smitty most importantly to click with Cam to make our offense lethal as I mentioned in another thread.

Greg Hardy

Our D-line will no doubt be improved but we can't solely rely on Charles. Hardy has the opportunity to really excel in a Rivera defense and I am going to be very interested to see how he goes about business.

Terrell McClain

With Edwards, we have some vet presence on the interior line, but McClain can really help us out if he can live up and maybe exceed expectations. We've already heard good things from him so it will be interesting to see where things go. If our defensive line develops into a strong unit, that will no doubt alleviate the concern at CB for the time being.

Greg Hardy - need DE position is still a position of need until someone proves they can handle the job and just not be a rotational piece to the puzzle

CB/S situation as a whole - not sure what is going on there but it is a concern

Otah - will be huge if he looks healthy and motivated

* I didn't feel the need to list the 2 most glaring weakness from a talent aspect from last season in QB/DT. Obviously, I will be watching those as well.

Lee Ziemba- Probably just a rotational player but could see some serious time depending on injuries. He's a bulldozer in run blocking.

Armanti Edwards- I've always believe he had the talent to succeed at this level no matter what was asked of him and from all early signs coming out of camp, it looks like he's on the right track.

Thomas Davis- If his knees hold up I'm looking for him to return to form, which will be huge.

Gettis/Edwards/Rest of younger players in the receivers: Gettis pulled some things off last year that I thought was really good, like things that put him directly behind Smith. And then Lafell did somethings for the team, although was slightly inconsistent. Edwards, he's obvious, been doing good things in camp. And then that rookie and other guys we have.

Clausen: Believe it or not, I actually support Clausen being the second string. I believe he can develop into a great backup, and actually a pretty decent starter if he has the right coaching.

Ron Edwards: Had some good times with the Chiefs, he probably isn't the answer to all of our DT problems but I think he will do good there. The problem now is getting someone to play beside him if we're going for 4-3. Although, we have a rookie there right? I dunno. I'm just looking out for Ron Edwards. :3

3 players who NEED a good year:

Thomas Davis - needs to prove the injuries aren't chronic and he can bounce back to old form. If he can, he'll be a huge boost to the team.

Everette Brown - the teal tornado needs to build on the short flashes he showed toward the end of last year. He had some good moments, needs more.

Jeff Otah - see Thomas Davis.

    • I didn't say I thought throwing it was a bad decision, I said I thought not running those 3-5 yard routes to pick up the 1st down wasn't a great call.  Yes the play worked out, but I didn't love the play call, it's like when a bad shooter is taking a 3 and you're yelling "no no no" as they're going up and then they make it so it worked out. That's still gambling on them to make the play and I take no issue with that. But I just went and watched the play again, we had T-Mac and XL running downfield crossing routes, Coker went in motion behind the LOS and then moved up a yard or two after the snap but not even past the LOS, Sanders chipped the DE and then ran a drag route right long the LOS. The play worked out, but I don't really like that particular play call and route tree with the game on the line on a 4th and 2.  If you want to send one route downfield as an option that's fine, but there were only 2 realistic target options with that route tree and they were both 15-20 yards downfield.
    • If BY comes back, they 100% need to bring in legit competition.    Heres what as you are alluding too. This team can either sign Icky&Mays or BY, I do not see both without cuts/trades/etc. My vote is for Icky&Mays, draft a QB....
    • JB shouldn’t even be a thought IMO.  Bonus if he ever matters for us.
