8/9 1030 Practice Thread

Lafell had 7 drops last year out of 77 targets, and caught 50% of passes thrown to him.

Obviously, we'd like to see those numbers improve, but for a rookie he still finished in the top 10 for yards.

Not bad for a rookie who was probably the 4th option on the team, IMO.

try 0 percent chance this season, he's young, cheap & under contract for 3 more years.

being cheap and having a contract means little at the QB spot. Position is too important to keep someone who doesn't fit b/c they are costing you little.....Clausen will have to show something (either in games or practice) for Rivera to hang on to him after this season.

i agree, but i was refering to this season, anything can happen after this year for anybody on this roster that is not considered a part of "the core"

I love it when people actually do research.

What has Lafell done to convince you he isn't a NFL wr?

Catch consistantly?

Thought that was pretty clear.

So dropping about 10% of the targets you get is accpetable for an NFL receiver?

How many of those balls were catchable? Then the drop % goes up.

It's not acceptable to catch 5 passes for every drop.

Couple that with the fact that he's been passed by a guy on the depth chart that was a late round flier and you have an issue.

What has he done to show you he CAN be a receiver in the NFL? Drop 1 pass for every 5 catches? Yay!

What are the odds we just have Newton and Anderson as the 1,2 and eliminate Clausen all together?

I think it's pretty fair. Chud's offense in Cleveland was built to push the ball downfield, it went to crap when the owner forced the coaches to put in a QB that checks down the majority of the time.

It appears Cam is willing to air the ball out. Everyone knows DA is willing. If the coaches have a plan for the offense, it would make sense that they try to get a QB staff that has the tools for the scheme.

Anderson may have been brought in with a one year contract and told we want you to compete to see if you can win the starting job, he may have been brought in and told Cam's our guy but you'll have the opportunity to compete for the backup and get a long term healthy bench gig, but I really doubt he was told they want him as the third guy for a year and then sayonara.

    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
