Wanna trade with the Bears again?

if we got him cheap enough I wouldn't be upset. But frankly, I'm kind of curious to see how things shake out among the WR's we already have. I think AE is shaping up to be a good player, and for whatever reason, the guy we got from the Chargers has gotten my attention too. I thing Nanee (I probably got his name wrong just then - no offense intended) could turn into a good alternative on the opposite side of the field from Smitty, as a credible threat helping to stretch the field.

If we went after santana moss why not Lee Evans..he is still being shopped.

Moss was a FA, and would not cost us a draft pick to sign him. Lee Evans is not a FA, and would cost us a draft pick.. I am sure that's the reason.

Got ya...

We are talking about TRADING in this thread for Knox.

So with that said If the Panthers wanted Santana Moss why not TRADE(which Im not a fan of) for a Lee Evans instead.

I think he is a better option to strech defenses with better size than Knox(although older) and very similar if not better than Santana Moss.

damn we would have a lot of wr's

We actually just have the kind of depth most teams now have in the "rules tilted towards the passing game" NFL. And I don't mean that to be snarky. Fox just never wanted to change his conservative approach.

Still ironic that the only year we had 3 starting caliber WR (Smitty, Proehl, and Moose) was the year we almost won the Superbowl. And we did draft some WR's, just none successfully. When you think about it, the only other year in the entire Fox era we even had a legitimate #2 WR was Moose in 2008. Most years we haven't had anybody outside of 89.

I still wouldn't put us in the same situation as some teams, but I do think we have better depth at WR than we had since 2007 at least on paper. I really thought our passing was going to be good with Smitty, Colbert, Carter, and Jarrett (who I really thought was going to be a star). Just goes to show what "on-paper" means.

However, I think Olsen will be an X-factor for us in the passing game. With the running game we have, we really only need 3 legitimate receiving threats in my opinion to be a competitive team.

I think that is why Rivera is harping on the #2 receiver thing so much. We have Smitty (if healthy) and Olsen. But we really do need another guy to step up.

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
