Preseason Impressions: The Quarterbacks

TBH its a coaches call if Newton or Anderson starts. Clausen just needs to sit and relax knowing he is not going to be put back into the fire. My choice is Anderson to start the first part of the season for the simple fact we have nothing to lose with him. If he does well then great if he does not then its expected. All the while Newton and Clausen are getting to see how a real NON preseason defense works. I really doubt that will happen though and I think Rivera and Richardson are set on trial by fire, but we will see.

I think that Cam and Jimmy both have the talent to play in this league.

That said Cam certainly isn't ready to play, and Jimmy is in the wrong system for him to be a good QB.

Start Anderson, and let Cam grow into the position. I don't care if that's week 9 or if it's next season. Ruining him is certainly not the answer.

Jimmy will probably have to go to another team to be a decent QB.

Here we go with this start Anderson poo, the guy fuging sucks, the only reason he got a TD that giants game9 is because he was against players, that won't even make their team.

Am I missing something or has any other QB not sucked? Anderson has a leg up because he understands the system and understands the game. No he is not going to win us the DIV but we are NOT going to win the DIV, nor make it to the playoffs this year. Might as well let Newton start when he is ready, not just cause people want to sniff his swag.

This is the thing that gets me. I operate under the assumption that Rivera, Hurney and the rest of the FO know more about the NFL, this offense, and Cam Newton.

Why would they stake their reputations, as well as, the future of the Carolina Panthers on starting Cam game 1, if they did not think he would progress, rather than regress. This is Rivera's first coaching job, why would he want to ruin his franchise QB? Furthermore, most fans understand that Cam was drafted on potential, and could possibly benefit from watching for a couple of games or even for the season?

I just don't understand why it seems so obvious to many of you that Cam should be watching, but that does not even seem like a possibility to the coaches and staff. It can't just be about selling tickets this season because sustained excellence under Cam Newton would be the best decision if based on finances. Also with the rookie wage scale, Cam is not making an absurd amount of money. So why?

I think Anderson gives us the best chance to win but I still dont think it makes much sense... Sure, Cam hasnt looked great but we havent seen him in a week where there is game planning and where he knows he is the starter. Give him a chance to own a game and then lets make some assessments.

I feel like week 1, Cam will get the job done- I think regardless the position is his anyways.

Because I'd prefer see them build the next Steve McNair rather than the next Kerry Collins.

Do they know more about the actual NFL than us? Yes, but technically speaking, so does John Fox.

Even the best are not immune to mistakes. Bobby Beathard was arguably one of the best GMs of all time, but he's only remembered these days as the guy who drafted Ryan Leaf.

No problem with risk. Just prefer we make smart decisions.

Starting Newton before he's ready isn't one of those.

What you think is smart I think is pointless and a waste of time. You do not have the luxury of keeping a QB drafted with the #1 pick on the bench for a year or two. Your assessment is outdated and it used to be how things were done. The NFL has evolved and its time for your thought process to do so as well.

You also don't have the luxury of screwing up a #1 pick and not having it set your team back for years to come.

This year is a rebuilding year anyway.

I could easily say that I want the next best Ryan, or Flacco.

But, you still did not answer their your perception of their rational.
