Saints cut Alex Brown... Rivera connection

I believe its because their first rounder Cameron Jordan is progressing nicely, and will get majority of reps.

And Brown was due 3+ million. They did not want to pay that for a backup, rotational guy.

THIS...and look at the their roster under the Dline players. They are STACKED.

A lot of teams cut better players early to give them more of a chance to get on new rosters, especially respected vets- see Chester Taylor.

It could be they want to develop they guys behind him. It could be that he's played like Ray Edwards this season. No one knows but it's not hard to upgrade over E Brown.

I really hope people aren't going to have ultra high expectations for people we sign or claim off waivers in the next 10 days. None of them are going to be stellar, get that through your heads now. Good starters generally aren't cut, especially not from the defensive line. However, and this is a big however, there are almost certainly going to be *plenty* of defensive linemen that are cut that are going to be upgrades over what we have now at defensive tackle and probably at the other defensive end position too. It's not about claiming a free Pro Bowler off waivers; it's all about upgrading what you currently have.

...and it helps to have vets around that understand Rivera's system, it's like having another coach on the field and even if the player isn't interested in coaching per say, the other guys can watch him run certain plays and imitate what he does.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
