Maybe some of the Newton fans will become Panthers fans even if Cam flames out. That in my opinion is a good thing.

I'm a Panther fan, and so long as Cam is a Panther, I want him to do well.

Cam Newton fans want the Panthers to do well so long as Cam is our starting QB. If Cam leaves the team, they leave.

Can we convert Cam Newton fans into Panther fans without Cam Newton staying on the team and playing well? I don't think so, but that would be nice.
