John Madden - "NFL does nothing for the fans"

I agree. In the last 20 years the NFL has evolved towards the box seat owners rather than the common man. They have taken on a "If you can't afford it, oh well!" attitude and adopted season-ticket "contracts" and blackout rules as a form of blackmail to the hometown fan, the one who can't afford season tickets and must buy way overpriced single game tickets. Why should the average price to a attend chargers game cost almost as much as filling up my truck, twice.

You say that... but its always been like that. What was $20 to go to a game in the 70's is $80 to go to a game today. Yes it's expensive but has anyone here ever regretted going to a game after it's all said and done? I mean, complain about the fact it costs half a months rent of a small apartment to get a hotel room for ONE night.

Madden talking about prices? John, tell EA Sports to lower its $60 pricetag for your game if you care so much about us.

If Madden and the NFL couldn't get rich off the fans, there would be no Madden nor NFL.

Wasn't that thing just 49.00 a couple years back? Geez

That's the price of any of the current generation console games excluding the Wii. The last time a Madden game was offered at $50 it was on PS2 and Xbox.

You guys think the NFL doesn't do anything for the fans?

Wait til they start charging to watch the games on TV.

They already do, sort of. Its included in the price of Directv, or cable or whatever form of television access you have. Unless of course, you are one of the 10 people still using antennaes. :)

The NFL moving to a PPV system would be a reason to riot.

simple supply and demand. The NFL charges prices that the right number of people are willing to pay.

Unless you're in Tampa Bay, Oakland, San Francisco, Miami, San Diego, Buffalo, or St. Louis.

Also additionally if people can't afford to sell out the game then they can't watch it on television.

Just like Adam Smith described in Wealth of Nations.

You do realize that that is the standard price for a video game, right? Super Nintendo games used to cost even more.

So you pay that $60 for roster updates, and you like it like the consumer ***** that you are.

*holds his copy of Madden* Shhh... shhh... you'll make me feel better after we lose games this season... yeeeees...

You see it's simple supply and demand.

The owners are given massive state subsidies to construct stadiums from which they garner massive profits. In return, they charge exorbitant prices, the increase of which has outpaced inflation, and when the taxpayers in a community who financed their stadium can't afford to fill it to attendance, they deny them the ability to view it on television.
