Matt Kalil

While i think Kalil will be a very good pro player.. you simply don't draft players in the Top 5 for depth. You draft Top 5 players to make an immediate impact. As long as Gross and Otah are both on the team and healthy, then Kalil would not make an immediate impact. You have to go with WR/CB/DT at the top of the draft. Right now, it looks like WR will be the best value because there is a considerate drop off in talent, wheras, the CB position is fairly deep this year. And DT looks fairly weak throughout.

Kalil would make an immediate impact if he's healthy for the whole season, something Otah hasn't done since being drafted. This season should tell the tale with him. Even if Otah makes it, we are looking for a RG and I'd assume he could kick inside until a OT vacancy opens up. I, however, agree with your assessment in principle.

If we are looking for a right guard after the season we can find one cheap in free agency, like Vincent, or in the fourth or fifth round. We don't need to draft a guard in the top five, which is were Kalil will most likely be drafted.

Well, based on how projections look right now he could be a top-5 pick, so I doubt we have a shot at him anyway. I expect us to pick somewhere between 6-12 or so and it's tough to imagine him lasting that long.

Still say CB is our best bet in the 1st, both based on need and projected available talent.

I have always said the lines are the most important areas in football. If you can hold against pressure on O and create it on D it makes everybody on the team look better. Cam is a man that can tear a D up if he can get more time for our recievers to get open.

So I would love this. We could finally move Gross back to his all-pro RT position and we get a better pass blocker at LT. It would do wonders for our run blocking as well. And the RG position needs a solid FA pickup as well. We got a potential All-pro QB we need to protect him both directly (with pass blocking) and indirectly (the running game).

Next we need to bring in a solid DT in the 2nd.

Otah still has one year left on his contract after this year. There is now way they give up on him now, plus we have guys with potential they like already on the roster. There is just too much money sunk into the o line rignt now anyway for them to give up and start over at this point and time. Otah would have to get hurt and miss the rest of the year again for them to consider using a top 10 pick on a lineman.

I think Otah has gotten a lot of leniency. He's been out for sooo long. But we are a different team without the guy. But at the same time you can't miss that much time either. We needs a guy that won't be out this long. Who knows if his knee will be fine now. I guess time will tell.

I thought this was a what have you done for me lately league?

Well WTF has Otah done for us lately? Or in the last 2 years?

Yeah he hasnt done enough for you lately, but last time i checked we had a whole knew coaching staff and apparently he has a clean slate with them. Thats why i say drafting a lineman first next year is not likely, unless we get pretty much nothing out of him this year then yeah there is a possibility.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
