Mastermind skip bayless tell key to shutting down Cam

For whatever reason our run game tends to start off slow almost every year. It's like they need to warm up or something. However I expect the Cam Newton experience to spread. I think for the first time in a long time, the team may actually come out thinking they can win. If we can do anything remotely effective on the defensive side of the football we can compete. I'm still trying to talk myself into believing we can win the game. I should be full fledged crazy by Sunday and start spouting how the Packers should be the underdogs.

I found it hilarious when the host of the show called out skip saying he thought cam had bad accuracy. He said Cam was hitting passes in shoebox windows. Then Skip says it is because it was the Cardinals D. The host says that they have PP, who is skips guy and he got torched by Smith. Skip comes back with, Well i still think PP should be a safety not a corner. Then ends it with well PP got the win so that is all that matters.

What a tool.

Skip is right that is how you shutdown CAM

Sucks that we are known for rushing and that would not work out so well.

GB can probably do pretty dang well rushing 4. Raji is a load. Carolina run game has been shut down early in seasons with out going all out to do it. Plus, despite what many believe.....DeAngelo isn't that guy from 2008 anymore.

dwill is to elusive for a lineman to take down him down, stewart is to stout to get down to a arm tackle from a lineman

However there linebackers prob won't let them break a big run and aslong as they dont blitz as skip said dwill and stewart can easily avg 4.5 a carry.

like I said though, Double Trouble has been shut down often early in seasons....without overselling the run defense to do it.

The Cards used the same defensive approach that Monte Kiffin always used to contain Vick.

The idea in this approach is to use heavy pressure from one side to try and flush him to the side where he's less comfortable throwing. For Vick, that's his right. For Newton, his left.

It's been known to work fairly well against Vick. I wouldn't say it was especially effective against Newton.

They did stick to eight man fronts most of the day, trying to minimize the threat of the run and forcing Newton to beat them. Even though Newton was fairly successful yesterday, I still expect that approach to continue for a while.

Honestly I think the reason why Cam had such a great game is because they were expecting to stop our run game. We still have the same players for the run game we have had in years past so we will be able to be just as successful. If teams plan on stopping Cam then they will have to deal with our run game, Vice versa. Finally our team has balance and our offense is very scary with Cam as our QB. I just wish that Steve Smith would still be in his prime when Newton reaches his.

All I got to say is

Spread the D out majority of the time and spread the ball around and that will completely throw them off. Once we get them to focus on the pass then the balance really begins. Remember against the Giants in preseason. What was the first play? Shotgun to Lafell. Chud has to let it be known this is NOT the same offense as previous years

Going to have to do more than that(hopefully) to stop Cam.

Rush 4, have 1 spy, drop 6 into coverage. Probably the conservative approach.

I would assume that GB will use a lot of zone and man blitz, and mix it up to try to trick Cam into making a mistake.

Pretty excited for this game to see how Cam handles it.

Most of you who are ridiculing this are nissing the reality which is that Arizona had single coverage on all of our guys because they were sold out on the blitz. It allowed Newton to have open receivers if he eluded the rush. Teams like Tampa which usually have a very good pass defense, only rush 4 guys. They put 7 in coverage meaning 3 LBs and 4 DBs in zone coverage. Historically we have had a hard time passing the ball. It makes you have to work underneath and be patient which Newton may or may not be at this point. Yes at times we have run very well against Tampa but other times we have not. It is a very legitimate scheme which has worked against the Panthers pretty well.

Should Green Bay run it? Honestly I think they should. If they all out blitz it only forces Newton to do what he does very well which is to run. And the Panthers will be working on more packages to move the pocket, planned roll outs etc, this week because Ariizona blitzed so much. What our offense hasn't practiced is playing against a tight zone with small windows where a team sends 3 or 4 guys many times and other times blitzes one or 2 linebackers but stays more disciplined in the secondary.

I am sure Green Bay will mix it up this week but I suspect they will blitz less than Arizona not more. Nd when they do blitz they won't sell out like Arizona did.
