What are other boards saying about Cam ???

i was curious enough to google...

"Peterson was good on special teams but terrible as a cornerback.

Newton was only great because he was lighting up Peterson over and over."

"You know what does bug me though is that it seemed abundantly clear to me that several of Cam's throws including the first TD were clearly blown coverage by us but he gets touted as the ultimate QB in the world"

"He has a lot of poise and slides in the pocket very well. His arm is very strong and he threw off his back foot many tiimes.

overall he had more time to throw the ball then Kevin. But this kid has a bright future."

"Most of the time Cam was throwing to wide open receivers and with little pressure. When he had good pressure he showed his weekness. He's gonna have to deal with much better DB's all season, so before the ESPN crowns him KING CAM lets see what he does against serious pressure and covered receivers."

My guess is what he will do is run and that he will do that pretty well also

I post on anther general football board, most people are amazed but haters are still gonna hate:

"Let me start off by saying, it was a hell of a performance, surprised me a lot and he played well. HOWEVER I'm not crowing him as the savior of Carolina or the OROTY just yet.

The reason I never bit on Cam being a top QB in the NFL was not because of his accuracy, he threw great deep balls at Auburn with ease. My biggest issue with him was the system he played in, a lot of people outside of college football enthusiasts don't give Gus Malzahn the credit for being the offensive genius he is and for creating an offense where QBs can Unleash the Dragon on a consistent basis.

When I looked back on his throws from yesterday, his WRs were running free and I only saw him read his other options once. Every other pass was him locking in on the play's #1 option and gunning it (accurately, but no real reads nonetheless), similar to how he did under Malzahn's offense.

The one game I did see Newton struggle was against Oregon in the first half where the Ducks disguised coverage and they made Newton seek other options outside of his first read. It wasn't until Malzahn's halftime adjustments where he figured out Oregon's defense and adjusted the playcalling accordingly to where Newton finally looked comfortable throwing.

I'm not "hating" I loved Newton's performance. But it still didn't answer the question I had about his ability to make reads outside of the first option. I'm extremely curious to see how he does against Green Bay, and against Capers' tactics."

"Over 100 of his yards came from two passes to receivers that didn't have a corner within ten yards of them... what is there to be impressed about? He's still missing receivers left and right in actual man coverage from the bits I'm seeing on NFL Redzone... smh dude "

"And he threw a terrible pick earlier on the drive that got negated by a penalty, but he rushed his throw after seeing a defender rolling off the edge... simple question, do you realize that every quarterback in the league could have made that first touchdown throw to Steve Smith? Would you still be freaking out over 100 or so yards and one touchdown pass? "

"Evading sacks? You are acting like we were saying that he was Bryon Leftwich or something. That's what he does. The Cardinals aren't good on defense and you are blinded by your fandom. Wait until he plays a tough defense then, we can anoint him the second coming of Randall Cunningham."

"He's just throwing crap up and Smith is doing all the work"

On that 2nd TD pass, Peterson was in good position on Smitty and Cam made a perfect throw... so don't tell me they were all on blown coverage.

Cam had a ton of pressure in his face, on the road, as a rookie, in his debut and managed to pass for 422 yards and 2 TD's with a 68% completion rate and only one INT. You can make all the qualifications you want, but the fact is that NOBODY HAS DONE THAT BEFORE.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
