For a secondary that was doubted....

We currently have the best pass defense in our division, top 15 in the NFL. I know its 3 games but its a great start, and im bringing this up because i was just watching 1st Take and the question was who would you take as a QB, Cutler or Cam? (since they play this week) and Skip said Cutler because we had the worst Pass D in the NFL which was false because i just looked it up, LOL. (Skips a Cutler lover so he lost more respect on that).

But im real proud of our boys tho. Keep it up.

nonsense, the Panthers are godlike and you better hope your precious Eagles stay away from us or Cam will play defense just to break Vick in half!!!!

after 3 games I think rankings and stats are totally worthless at that level, because it's influenced far too much by opponents, game conditions (as pointed out above) etc.

I do think our pass defense's biggest weakness is the occasional blown coverage that leads to huge plays, but otherwise it's improving. Still a young group of guys in a new system with a lot of room to go, but right now, they are still a major work in progress...

also, maybe I'm a pessimist but I would take Cutler vs Panthers D over Cam vs Bears D, but I think this will be a hard fought game.

U can easily say Skip is right considering the Panthers have had the least passing plays against them so far while giving up the most total yards per pass attempt. So no team gives up more yards per pass attempt than the Panthers currently, but don't let facts get in the way. Sorry for the buzzkill.

Their pass defense clearly isn't top 15, but it's not dead last. They've given up some big plays(the Jeff King broken coverage TD, the Jordy Nelson TD, Greg Jennings, etc) but for the most part they've been pretty solid. Mid 20's is where I'd rank it. There are much worse teams.

oh well, at least our star corner didn't get bent over by the super star we all know as Victor Cruz ;)

Mid twenties is bad...

The defense has been aggressive and has given up big plays as a result. If we can find a nickel and get Pugh off the field or he grows more I think we can get better. I give a lot of credit to Gamble and Munnerlyn though.

    • Yep - honestly though, I thought his coverage was as good as you could possibly do on a man coverage crossing route with Dak having all day to throw. Dak made a perfect throw and if it wasn't in front of Pickens, it could have easily been picked off. Seemed like we ran more man than I have seen our defense run so far this year. Defense also did a great job of playing their gap/zone responsibilities (even if Dak did pick apart our zone a good chunk of the game) - that screen play on the last drive could easily have gone for a touchdown if Moehrig didn't play his zone and make a great tackle. Biggest complaint about Evero was not blitzing a few more times (especially when Dallas was in the red zone). The few times we did it, Dak didn't look comfortable.
    • There was some pretty egregious missed calls vs the Chiefs in the Lions game, especially Kelce. The completion where he clearly used the ground to catch the ball. The hold in front of the ref as Pacheco ran by where the defender was trying to turn around and couldnt because Kelce had him by the jersey. Mahomes openly taunting after scoring a TD. 0 penalties after double digit the week before. Cmon.
    • People get trade happy and look at resources as barter items. They fail to see them as resources to be used to our benefit rather than someone else's. Right now, Chuba and Rico are massive benefits to us and a strong rushing attack so greatly benefits any passer, much less a young one like Bryce still is.  And the better our running game, the more our offense can eat up the clock, the less time our defense is on the field. And that is priceless, too. Don't mess with the running game. Don't mess with the receivers. Maybe look at our O-line and think we may have hit on something good during these injuries. Look at our D-line and seem some strength evolving there. Our secondary has its good spots and some that are still developing. Our linebacking corps did well this last outing. Our special teams are on a major upswing as of this past week. Heck, even our QB is showing us a little something right now that we can build on. Perhaps putting out a yard sale sign right now might be less advantageous than looking at the team and saying, "You are all part of something good that is happening. We want to see that continue to grow."
