What is our biggest position of need?

This thread will be great for compiling a list of people who think offensive line is the biggest problem for the Panthers so they can be banned as a group from posting on this site anymore.

You could say the same for those who don't think drafting a good T to replace Otah isn't necessary. O-line play is about as important as QB play.

How many games/plays does Otah sit out before it needs to be considered I wonder?

Top 5 doesn't mean poo if he is on the bench.

There is a HUGE list of 'top 5' quality players than have had their careers shortened due to injuries.

I love Otah....

on the field.

Don't act foolish now. The major problems with Otah leaves a HUGE hole at RT, which effects the entire offense. Byron Bell looks good so far, but if he doesn't pan out to be anything better than a backup (and if Otah doesn't get over this never ending slump), we will need to burn an early draft pick or make a big signing for ether a stud or an above average RT.

Also, RG is being anchored down by a decent backup thus far, do you remember all the injuries to that position early in camp and pre-season? We've done well with max protections for Cam by bringing the RB to block and the TE's to help take the pressure off of him, the RG, and the RT. But those two positions are actually in need.

Learn some football before posting such ignorance ;)

This is trickey. The Falcons have done a great job at developing Ryan by spending picks on weapons - at the expenses of their D. Smitty needs to be allowed to eventually be a #2 or 3 option so that means would should either draft a WR or pick up a guy in FA.

But that being said, if Lafell or someone else develops we might have 'that guy' on our roster already.

But ya we need to speck picks on both lines and in the secondary.

IMO my top 3 picks are

1- WR

2- DT

3- OT

Too early to tell. Each position that has struggled so far has young talented players who have shown promise. Won't be able to determine for sure until the end of the year.

I'd say Wideout, but you just CANNOT forget about David Gettis when looking at that position. So i really don't know.

DT is soooooo a need right now. It's the one that sticks out like a sore thumb. I realize Ron Edwards is coming back next year, but still. It's a glaring need. =/

Yeap. I just hope there is a guy when we pick that is worth it. I don't start really scouting until mid-season but so far no one graded out in the 1st impresses me too much.

    • There's only two paths to that happening. First is that Theilen misses a significant chunk of the season, the other is that XL and Coker both either flop or have injuries themselves. I love the pickup of Renfrow as I think he'll be great in the locker/film room for all the young guys while giving us a natural replacement of Thielen in the WR room next year to be the wiley old vet in the room. But he has almost no path to getting snaps this year unless the guys ahead of him have injuries or just suck.  Assuming he makes he squad, he's more likely to be inactive more often than he's active on game days.   And he's not the best route runner on the team, that's still Thielen, who even at this point in his career is still one of the better route runners in the league.
    • I'll go ahead and say it because the average poster is too scared to say it.  Hunter Renfrow is the best route runner on the team.  He will catch more balls than a couple of those dudes added together.  It's Short King season!   Get on the wagon while there are still seats available!
    • But that's the WR4 this year, we only have one year left of Thielen. If Coker has injury issues and/or regresses and shows why he went undrafted, unless Horn ends up REALLY living up to the minicamp hype, we'd actually end up in need of another good WR option next offseason again. I love the potential of T-Mac, XL, Coker, Horn as our 1-4 next year and into the future. And while I of course have a million percent belief that T-Mac is going to be that guy for us, it's still a big year for the rest of the WR room to prove we're set at the position for the foreseeable future once Thielen is gone after the season.
