We're alright in runs up the middle but on runs with pulling guards or stretch plays, that's where we've been getting torn up. It's just about setting the edge and we did a little better this time. Fortunately for us, the skins seemed to stop running as much once we got a touchdown and hightower went down.

We're also vulnerable on the 3rd and long draw play. but if we blitz, we usually contain it.

Tackling needs to get better too. Too many guys trying to do other things than bring the guy down. Wrapping up needs to be worked on. Too many arm tackles and guys not squaring up. Some of that is because they're not in the right positions to begin with though. Sometimes we've called the right play but we've failed to set the edge and thus move the play out further than it needed to be and thus our linebackers get out of position and try to arm tackle fools. Can't do that against guys like Michael Turner and Blount and Forte. Those are big and powerful guys with really good balance.

Our LBs can't shed blockers to save their lives. They take the block head on and go with the blocker. This is something Beason and Davis were both good at NOT doing, since they were both faster and apparently stronger than our current group, but even then it's hard to have to keep doing play after play.

Having a mixture of poor DTs who can't eat up doubles and LBs who aren't that fast nor strong, makes for a really bad recipe against the run.

Our safeties aren't the hardest crashing safeties either, they don't have top tier speed so to prevent getting beat they don't bite down much for runs unless it breaks out to them and by then we're already cussing out everybody else for not stopping the run earlier.

The whole D unit right now isn't that good. Everyone should just realize that now so you won't expect that much come Sunday.

We're going to have to keep a lead so our D can basically predict what the other team will do (pass due to being down) in order for them to play decently. That and capitalize on mistakes, which we did fairly well today, are the keys this season for any success on D. In the next year or two (with a few acquisitions via draft/FA and experience) I think we'll be pretty intimidating on both sides of the ball.

      If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.

      And what is x gunna help with except show him what not to do. Plus for the first year and a half he was just an obstacle

      I understand that some people want WR. I am solidly against using yet another high pick there. Coker is pretty good and we used No picks on him.  What I think we really need at WR is a little bit of a Smitty lite. It is ridiculous to say let’s get a Smitty because you just can’t do that, but someone not tall and long striding but more in his mold. I think we’d have a pretty well rounded group.    Looking at tackle, with replacing Moton looming, it just seems like the no brainer.  You fill in Icky short term. Depending on how he recovers, and how the new guy plays, you go from there. A tackle at 19 is most likely either a LOT, a ROT, or a big talented guard, at worst. We will need all three in the next couple of years.  I would love to have a stud ILB be there at 19 but the OL is the responsible thing to do I believe.
