Panthers in the Pro Bowl

I honestly think the Pro Bowl is a stupid popularity contest and it doesn't really matter but I had some fairly obvious observations.

QB:

Aaron Rodgers

Drew Brees

Cam Newton

Brees and Rodgers could end up even duking it out for the NFC Championship and neither might not even attend.

I took an honest look at all the other QBs in the NFC and couldn't definitively pick another guy over Cam. Eli could offer some competition down the road but Cam got wwaaayyy more SWAG.

Stafford is getting an MRI, the entire NFC East blows, Bradfords team has imploded, Matt Ryan sucks. Cutler and Freemen are very meh. Granted I aint seen Alex Smith play and things could change but I'm going with Cam.

Plus its basically a huge popularity contest. Cam is popular has a good highlight reel and I basically see him winning Rookie of the Year. Screw Andy "Ginger" Dalton.

WR:

Calvin Johnson

Smitty

I think Smitty is better but Johnson has like a million TDs and wears elevator boots. Honestly I don't know who is 3rd and 4th. Its a mess between Jennings, Maclin, and Nicks.

I think Kalil should go cause he is a total boss. Gross will go. Guy has actually had a great year and he always goes, even last year. I wonder if he pays people off.

Besides that Charles Johnson will probably defiantly deserve to go but will probably get screwed out of the spot. Like I said its a dumb popularity contest.

I'm sure our fans could argue for other players but those are the five who I say definitely deserve it so far.

I'm considering adding Anderson to that list if he keeps stepping up.

Kalil and Smitty and Gross are the most sure bets, I think Cam has a chance if he keeps up his play to be the third guy in there or be the 1st alternate, depends on how healthy Stafford, you also have Romo who lots of Cowboy fans will vote for.

Going off the player stats on NFL.com dont sleep on Gamble, his only real competition is Woodson, Grimes, and Greer. Grimes and Greer have given up TD catches this year so he has got a shot. Rodgers has played well also so he could get a nod cuz of the niners good season.

Cam probably won't get picked as one of the original 3 QB's, but will probably get in as an alternate.

Gross & Kalil are virtual locks. The NFC is weak at both positions and if they made it last year with our awful offense, they should certainly make it this year. Only way Kalil doesn't go is if the idiot fans just vote for the centers of the winning teams because they don't know any better.

Smith is as close to a lock as we have. He's putting up monster fantasy numbers, which is key these days for the fan votes. And the players/coaches will certainly vote him in.

Doubt anyone else on offense goes. Olsen could be a 3rd or 4th alternate, but he's not really putting up huge numbers compared to guys like Jimmy Graham, etc.

On defense, Charles Johnson has a shot because more people know about him now after hearing about his big contract extension. Still, few will probably realize he's playing well right now and he'll likely be overlooked in fan voting.

Guys with outside shots at alternate status include Gamble, Godfrey, & Anderson, though I seriously doubt it given how our defense is playing and also because they're not household names.

I can see Mare getting in, but it's also probably a long shot. My predictions right now are:

Cam (alternate)

Steve Smith

Jordan Gross

Ryan Kalil

Charles Johnson (alternate)

    • This is a good story--I LOVED his dad as a person and player--I talked to him at an OTA (he was back for his second stint) and he was talking about Moore (the WR from Wake Forest) being so young.  I was with my teenage son and told him, "This is Taylor.  He and I attended the OTAs when you were in Rock Hill as a rookie."  He jokes, "Was he in diapers then?" and laughed.  I imagine Moose III was in diapers when we chatted that day.  So I really would love for this to work out.  However, his stats do not suggest he was anything special in college.
    • I guess there are signs. The combination of the turf toe, hamstring, and knee issues led to questions about his long-term health and affected his draft stock, causing him to fall to the second round.  Here is what I know about a knee injury.  It changes nearly every aspect of your lower body movement.  So the turf toe and hamstring could be related.  It makes him seem injury prone.  I guess the knee was not the most recent injury, so the others could have been a result of favoring the knee. Johnson did not run the 40 at the combine or pro day.  That suggests there is something he feels might drop his value.  So if you downplay the severity of the injury, have a history of possibly related injuries, and refuse to demonstrate (when given multiple opportunities) that you are fully recovered, don't get mad when your stock drops.
    • I saw numerous reports leading up to the draft that he'd been injury red flagged by numerous teams due to cartilage damage and wear issues that they think could shorten his career.
