Nice article in the Observer about the boy Cam gave the ball too

If Cam was getting the "golden child" treatment, when why did Rivera refuse to name the starting QB until the final week of the preseason?

 Really? You really thought there was a competition in camp? You really thought the team wasn't going to make Cam start no matter what when his competition was DA and JC?

Come on man.

This is the stuff that gets me. Don't be dumb. The kid is a beast on the field, but don't kid yourselves with this other stuff. Why act like he earned the starter spot with his play in preseason? It doesn't matter anymore. Why pretend like he's not treated different? Why pretend Rivera was considering starting Jimmy but Cam ripped the job away from him with his stellar play in weeks 1-3 of preseason?

I don't care if they get fined or not, it has to be worth the money to make a lifetime fan out of a little kid like that. One Wilson NFL Football: $120; The fine for giving it away: $$5,000 (just a guess here); Making a little kid's day and garnering a life-long Panthers fan: PRICELESS!

I think it's stupid of the NFL to fine that, but then the NFL does its fair share of things I find dumb.

The point is, they didn't give Cam the job right away. They may have decided he would start on opening weekend the day they drafted him, but they didn't tell him that.

I don't know why I'm wasting my time discussing this with you when I know damn well it's going nowhere, you are a highly effective troll.

You know what, if your a Panthers fan then your stuck with Cam for the next 10 years at least, so you better get to work on finding a way to like him.

Gonna go out on a limb here.....Shula could have dragged Cam throat first over to the wall and thrown him at the kid while screaming "For the last time you ignorant sumbitch, give the f**king ball to a f**king kid! Any kid in the stadium! None of them are special, they are all just sacks of popularity for you to suck dry like a festering leech! Do it! Do it now! It will look good on TV! Then you don't even have to look at their diseased little faces again! Dammit you are dumb! And these little pricks all look up to you! I hope they all die in purifying hell fire!"......and the kid wouldn't have cared. All that kid cared about is Cam G.D. Newton just gave him a touchdown football.

So I'm happy for the kid, regardless of "why" the deed was done.

He also gave a game ball to his offensive line after the game, but I guess Shula must have been yelling that in his ear also?

It's clear you have an agenda, congratulations - now please go find a team with a QB you like, may I suggest Miami?

^ Best post thus far, in this thread.

Oh jeez, that argument again?

Is this the part where you compare them to some military organization with Cam as their field general and blah blah blah.

If Rivera gave it to Cam and Cam gave it to his linemen, good gesture guy, you get props.

If Cam gives it to linemen, slooooooooooooooooow down, you don't get to make those calls.

Actually I believe that is exactly what happened. I believe that Rivera gave Cam the game ball and Cam gave it to his lineman.

This is the real Ca. He started doing this before The season started at Auburn. There was no Newton Hype, no awards, no National Championships. Just a good man giving back to the community. This was posted on the Auburn Family website last year.

Cameron Newton: A Role Model to Thousands

His athleticism has caught the attention of thousands, but many may not know that Auburn’s newest quarterback, Cameron Newton, is more than just a talented football player.

Every Monday, Newton visits Wrights Mill Road Elementary School and vows to make a difference in these children’s lives.

“It’s hard to imagine how he finds time to help others when his schedule is so packed,” said Faith Palmer, Auburn University student. “That just shows the caliber of person he is, and I know I, along with many others, are proud to have him as part of the Auburn family.”

Newton’s road to Auburn has not been easy. It has been filled with many trials and tribulations, but he has learned from his mistakes and is moving forward.

When he arrived on the plains, he decided to make the most out of his second chance. He wanted to give back to the Auburn community, and he is using his new found wisdom to help children.

According to AuburnSports.com, as soon as Auburn City schools began in August, Newton met with Wrights Mill Road Elementary School Principal, Lynda Tremaine.

Tremaine gave Newton the opportunity to be a part of the school’s mentor program. This allows him to work with children who need encouragement, either for academics or behavior, and Newton was thrilled.

Tremaine knew the time commitment would be difficult because of his strenuous schedule, but he continues to prove that this too is a top priority.

"If something comes up and he's going to be a little late, he'll call," Tremaine said. "If he's got to come on a different day, he'll let me know. I've been principal here for 14 years and have seen volunteers come and kind of fade away. But Cameron is taking this very seriously."

Newton lends his time to helping the entire school, but there are four fifth grade boys that he works with individually. He talks with the boys about the importance of good behavior and always doing the right thing.

“The teachers said they cannot believe the difference in their whole attitude,” Tremaine said. “He was made-to-order for our program.”

Cameron Newton has not only emerged as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks, but has also proven to be an influential role model and mentor.

"He is doing this, without a doubt, out of the kindness of his heart," Tremaine said. "He really wants to make a difference. He has told his boys, 'You know there were times that I was bad when I was about your age too,' but he lets them know that we learn from our mistakes.

Newton has clearly done just that. He has made mistakes, but continues to move forward as he inspires others on his journey to the top.
