Dispelling the new myth about our offense and defense

"The only games we've won have been against the worst offenses we've played, but the problem is CLEARLY our offense!"

CAM NEWTON SUCKS IN EVERY OTHER CATEGORY EXCEPT YARDS AND RUSHING TD'S 8 AND THE ONES THAT SMITH HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. SMITH HAS 20.0 PER GAME MORE THAN ANY OTHER RECEIVER IN THE NFL, 1000 YARDS AND ONLY 4 TDS. YOU REALLY BELIEVE A QB WITH A 60% COMPLETIO RATION IS BETTER WITH HIS LONG BALL THAN TOM BRADY, DREW BREES AND AARON RODGERS? HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE?

USE YOUR BRAINS!

Except I am not negative. I am only against lies and illusions spouted around here. I am very realistic. So I sound negative here because a bunch of people don't want to listen, and because when we are 2-6 people are happy about it and blame the defense or the team. A bunch of fuging defense trolls that have no idea what they are talking about.

And the bad part is they can't fuging tell the difference between a QB that's only decent at passing, and STEVE SMITH!

THAT fugING PISSSES ME OFF! I AM fugING TIRED OF SO MANY fugING DEUSCHES NOT GIVING SMITH HIS CREDIT! EVEN OUR OWN FANS AND THINK ITS THE ROOKIE QB AND MAKING HIM LOOK GOOD AND THE TEAM IS MAKING THE ROOKIE LOOK BAD. ITS BACKWARDS!

WHAT ELSE DOES HE HAVE TO DO BEFORE YOU MORONS FIGURE OUT ITS SMITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

20.0 YARDS PER GAME.

#2 RECIEVER IN THE NFL

TRIPLE CROWN WITH JAKE DELHOMME!

20.0 AVERAGE YARDS IN THE SUPERBOWL WITH JAKE DELHOMME!

VETERAN ELITE RECEIVER.

Ok...sit back...relax....make sure you remember to breathe...it should be an involuntary function...shouldnt be too difficult...there ya go....nice and easy big guy.....

Now what Im about to say may be hard for you to accept. BUT... ( see how I capitalized that?)

Cam Newton is a video game QB. He has all the abilities and tools and strengths. He's played 8 games in the NFL. He has shattered records. He has a cannon that has proved everyone wrong with the accuracy issues. Yes Steve Smith is a reason for the big numbers.

Stop being a nerd.

Now if you'll excuse me Stew23...

I have to go get in line at mid night at wal mart to get the new MW3 Call of Duty game..

It takes two to tango there bucko. Smith still needs someone who can deliver him the ball. I mean we all know Clausen did a fantastic job of giving him the ball last year. That must have been why our offense was so stellar. It's a good thing we had Smith last year carrying our offense or we might have really sucked huh?

Smith is a very talented and tenacious reciever, but he can't throw the ball to himself. His numbers this year are high because of his talent yes, but also due to Cam and the offensive scheme put forth by Chud.

I know you're a little slow, and you'll just ignore this logic entirely. It's ok, I don't really expect you to concede. I do enjoy you having a minor break down though, keep it up, because you're wrong as usual so keep going I want to see how far your head can expand.

this has certainly been proven this season.

I feel some games last year JC wasn't even looking for Smitty. Fiametta & Jeff King should never have more targets in a game than #89...and that's whatcha get with teh jimmy at QB.

I get that part. Never denied it. I also see that most people are comparing Clausen's results to Cam's results and this offense.

Instead of comparing Jake's results to Cam's results with Steve. But most people are also a little slow here.

They are also comparing our O now to our worst O ever. Believe it or not, I don't argue against good logic. So I concede that point. Cam is better than Clausen. Except that says nothing about how good he is.

Of course not. And the only reason he's in there in the yardage category is Steve Smith!

Well we can't really compare Jake and Cam without Steve, because that's where the comparison really lies, not with comparing them together because that's illogical.

2004

Player Att Comp Yds Comp % Yds/Att TD TD % INT INT % Long Sck Sack/Lost Rating

Jake Delhomme 533 310 3886 58.2 7.3 29 5.4 15 2.8 63 33 246 87.3

Damn that Steve Smith and his amazing 60 yards for the season. But if you want to go with their first years with Smith, for arguments sake, although this is a stupid argument...well even though we had a great year....

PASSING STATISTICS

Player Att Comp Yds Comp % Yds/Att TD TD % INT INT % Long Sck Sack/Lost Rating

Jake Delhomme 449 266 3219 59.2 7.2 19 4.2 16 3.6 67 23 168 80.6

Fairly average numbers for old Jakey boy.

Here's what OTHER people are saying about efficiency NOT JUST PFFL. But people WHO DO understand FOOTBALL. From STAT INTELLIGENCE:

To me, the strengths of Yards-Per-Point are as follows

*Clear and indisputable connection to the reality of what happens on the field.

*Clear delineations between quality and a lack of quality.

*An ability to reflect on offense and defense at the same time.

*Not much vulnerability to relatively random points that are scored by special teams or the defense.

*An inherent consistency over time that lines up with the reality as we know it. Scores can be very misleading. A team may score a bunch of points because of lucky breaks. It’s yard to “luck” your way into good or bad YPP numbers.

http://statintelligence.blogspot.com...ith-yards.html

And yet this whole fuging place has it backwards and go around posting it all day long. Who has the idiot herpes?

I got out and still trying to eliminate the symptoms.

You do know that just because someone puts "intelligence" in their blogspot name it doesn't really mean they are giving intelligent analysis, right??

You not understanding "Expected Points Added" is very telling and it is ironic since you like to tell people they don't know how to interpret stats. I'll give you a hint, the points aren't touchdowns and field goals (although those do have values).

Yards per point is just a simplistic formula that is used for generalizations and a very limited view of what you should use to valuate a offense or defense.

In other words it is a simple formula for simple minded people. Yards per game + points per game = efficiency. Easy peasy.

Unfortunately for you it is not a very good formula for true evaluation of an NFL offense or defense. I am going to refrain from posting a mountain of text explaining all the different variables involved here but your formula is a poor formula and is for the simple minded.
