zombies would be the only thing we could realistically expect to survive, well at least for me. Not sure bout some of you fatties. every other scenario pretty much, the event happens and we all cease to exist, everything goes black, game over, and we never know what hit us, we just rot.

Zombies and it's not even close. I would love to be around for an alien encounter, but not if they are here to destroy us. If a life form has the ability to make it to our planet with the mindset to destroy it, our technology stands no chance. At least with Zombies I get to shoot someone in the head before I go. I live in a pretty rural area so I would just look for the farm with the impenetrable swamp around it.
