(9:00 PM): SC OT denies earlier report about leaning toward staying in school ... Southern California junior LT Matt Kalil has denied published reports earlier today that he is leaning strongly toward returning for his senior season next fall. Kalil, who is currently being projected as the top OT in the 2012 draft and a possible top 5 pick were he to declare for this year’s draft, says he is still gathering information and exploring his options.

By the way, don't think we can do better than 4th

How are we all of a sudden picking ahead of TB? We still have the same record and beat them once. We probably still miss out on Claiborne. And what's this 2nd overall talk? Minnesota and St. Louis still have worse records than us and we actually have a reasonably winnable game left (TB).

The tie breaker is not based on 'head-to-head' matchup like most would think. It's determined on strength of schedule.. and right now, the Bucs SoS is stronger than ours.. so they are considered the 'better' team because we both have the same record of 4-9, but they did it against a tougher schedule.. so we get to pick before them.

Kalil is staying in college and Barkley isn't going 4th but cool thread.
If the Skins have a chance to get Barkley they won't hesitate. You have to admire what Barkley did at USC this year, with really nothing to play for his leadership showed as the Trojans won 10 games, I honestly think they were the third best team in the country. Washington hasn't had a franchise QB in +20 years and this would be their golden opportunity. I still wouldn't be surprised at all for them to give up as much as three first round picks for Luck. They are desperate.

If Kalil comes out, we need to trade up and get him. I don't know how we do it, but we need him bad. I'm very tired of seeing Wharton move to LT every time Gross goes down.
No we don't, there are two other quality tackles that will be there if tackle is the route we want to go. I think Claiborne will be the pick IF he is available, but I think Jacksonville will pick before us and I would expect them to snag him. I have no idea what we would do right now.

I agree that we do not need Kalil. Right now, if the draft happened today.. we would be #5, and Jax would pick #6, Bucs at #9. So we would have first shot at Claiborne if draft happened right now. I hope the Bucs can beat the Cowboys this week, and solidify our spot ahead of them. I think the Jaguars will get a WR like Alshon Jeffrey if available.. they have no good weapons for Gabbert.

    • BPA in draft all the way. Address your biggest needs in free agency.
    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
