Steve Smith takes Cam over Tebow anyday.

Count Panthers receiver Steve Smith among those who aren't fawning over Denver quarterback The Golden Calf of Bristol.

While acknowledging The Golden Calf of Bristol's run of fourth-quarter comebacks, Smith said he'd still take Panthers rookie Cam Newton over The Golden Calf of Bristol any day.

“You can't compare Cam to The Golden Calf of Bristol. I think Cam's a more complete player,” Smith said. “The Golden Calf of Bristol has the wins. But everybody wants to crown The Golden Calf of Bristol. Yes, he has the will to win. I think The Golden Calf of Bristol is no different than any other professional. But The Golden Calf of Bristol has a great opportunity to play behind a great defense.”

Smith also took exception with characterizations of The Golden Calf of Bristol as a versatile quarterback.

“Versatile would mean you can throw the ball very accurately, run the ball, create things. And the only thing he's creating is running,”

For anyone asking him to compare Newton and The Golden Calf of Bristol, Smith had this response: “Come check me out in five years, jack, and you'll know who's the better quarterback

That is the second time in less than a week that it suggests Smith may want to play for five more years. That is largely due to his rejuvenation under Newton. I seriously doubt that he would be very excited to be playing with The Golden Calf of Bristol. And he would be nowhere close to 1000 yards.

    • We have to start winning, no excuses.  I wouldn't slot us in at 11-6, but that would borderline be amazing considering our record in conjunction with the inconsistency, blowout losses and the way that we played the last month of the season. There was way too much Jekyll and Hyde last season to make me believe that the supposed "stability" isn't built on anything but sand. I'll be extremely happy to be wrong.
    • Team could improve slightly yet the record could decline. I want to think we’ll be better, but my optimism was never high and it is dulled by Icky’s loss. I think if we properly address LOT, it takes away an important potential upgrade elsewhere.  Playing together as one can still improve, individuals can still improve, but some will also decline.    Maybe I should ask those who expect a three game W-L improvement: why? What will be the cause for that?
    • And we have a tough schedule, so I'm not exactly holding my breath.
