I agree the value is there and there no real DLman that should go that high. Bu with several CB's out there and some good Olinemen, I just dont see spening a pick on a WR that we dont currently need or have a weakness at. Adding another WR will not benifit this team in the shortterm. Our offense is strong enough right now. Our secondary is hurting and we cant stop the run to save our lives.

Would love to see Matt Kalil along with his brother, but thats not going to happen. I dont see him dropping that far.

Morris Claiborne, Riley Reiff, Dre Kirkpatrick,Quinton Coples I could see any one of these still being on the board at the 9th pick.

I think Jacksonville takes him, their offense was dead last in passing yards (averaging 136 a game.. that's less than we had last year) and they have no weapons aside from MJD. Their defense is good. I don't really see a scenario where they pass on him if he's there.

Agreed. They have not had a great recieving copr for years.

That's because people didn't think he was that good at the time. They understand how quick things happen now.

still though, Blackmon hasn't even made it to the combine yet so that, combined with indidual workouts should better tell where he falls to. I don't think he makes it out of the top.10 though.

Im just one of those who would rather us draft for needs not value.

BPA always, unless the gap between the BPA and another similarly rated player (who fits a need) isn't that great. Reaching and taking on need alone gets a GM fired more times then not.

For example if your board looks like this>

CB > 90

OT > 92

DT > 90

WR > 93

DE > 99

RB > 92

OLB > 89

Team needs are this > DT, OLB, CB, OT. This Team already has one really good DE and another potentially good DE showing promise that are already on the team.

You take that damn DE and you fit him into your rotation and give him a chance to start and good playing time for the season. The second player you take on that board is the OT, he fits a need and is closely rated to the best remaining player left. The third option would be choosing which player (DT or CB) that best fit the team scheme and would make the biggest impact.

BLackmon will not go in the top three and I do not want him if he drops to 8/9. We are ok at WR, with our biggest needs being OLB, OT, FS, CB, DT, DE before you get to WR.

Players that will be drafted before Blackmon:

Andrew Luck

Robert Griffin III

Matt Kalil

Morris Claiborne

and maybe Trent Richardson.

Blackmon to Jacksonville makes the most sense.

I think around 10 is where he should be picked but in this draft after Luck, Kalil, Claiborne and RG3 I just don't see anyone that teams would take over JB.

It just depends on where you need help. I don't see Tampa taking him when they have a core group of young receivers. Cleveland could but I think a dominant run game is going to help them more right now than a rookie receiver would. Washington could also but I think they could be the team that tries to trade up to get RGIII at the Minnesotta spot and if that happens then maybe Minnesotta takes Blackmon or maybe they take someone who can help that piss-poor defense.

Point is...the best player doesn't always get picked where he should according to his talent. A lot has to do with what a team really needs to get over the hump. If your defense sucks a WR isn't going to help.

Being in the 8 spot...if we could find a trade partner I honestly wouldn't be mad about moving out of that pick and taking a guy like Keuchly who is probably a 10 year starter at LB for us. Love that guy.

I do not have the link, but I posted recently the success rates for first round draft picks in the NFL. It was lowest for WRs and DTs. Both were below 40%. I think that should be taken into consideration. For example, how are the top WRs from the 2009 (3 years is enough to see progress) doing? Dareus-Hayward Bay, Michael Crabtree were the first 2 taken. 5 went altogether, making it a big year for WRs. Maclin, Britt, and Hicks were the others. I would say Maclin and Nicks are doing well, Crabtree is slightly underperforming. the other 2? Nah.

WR: 38%

OT: 64%

CB: 69%

He likely won't be there when we pick, but to say there is absolutely no chance is asinine. Someone falls every year, wide-recievers are the usual suspects. See Crabtree and Dez Bryant.

Agreed. I mean, many people had (cough) Jimmy Clausen a top 10 pick. Some called him the best QB in the draft. If we did not have Marty Hurney, if we had a GM who may have wondered why teams that needed a QB (Minnesota, KC, etc) passed on him twice, no telling how far he would have dropped.

It is crazy. We speculate, but the scouts and GMs are a different animal.
