Most Disappointing Panther This Year?

Who was the most disappointing player or players this year, in your opinion?

1. Gregg Olsen - I still think he is a great player and I am glad he is on the team, but I really expected so much more from him. This is probably more my own high expectations than his fault. I was big on him when he came out of college and when we got him I was hoping for similar numbers that he had in Chicago. He just seemed to have a lot of drops and a few fumbles if I am not mistaken

2. Olindo Mare - I was not expecting him to be great, but he was without a doubt a big let down. It is hard to fill the shoes of Kasey.

3. Sherrod Martin - Worst part of an already bad defense. I am really hoping for a lights out safety in the near future.

I was going to put him in, but I gave him a pass because of not being able to train with the staff in the off season. I know that is not much of an excuse, but I think when you are that BIG, healing is probably tough. We will see next year, maybe?

I have a few issues with Olsen, but you cannot call him a disappointment. He was built up by some to be more than he is. By any measure he was very productive and that should continue.

To me, it is Martin, by far. I know he has become sort of a lightning rod for obvious reasons, but he looked like a promising young player at one point. Not so much now.

Honorable mention to Fua, but he is still very young.

Mare doesn't warrant discussion.

Olsen was not a disappointment

Shockey just cut into his production. And without him our offense wouldn't be nearly as explosive especially early in the season.

Olsen was a disappointment because 1) he had some big drops in games like the Detroit & Atlanta games, which led to stalled drives and the start of defensive collapses despite his hands supposedly being so "great", and 2) he does not play PHYSICAL enough. Almost always gets brought down by the first tackler, and if you touch his legs, he's going down.

That's why Olsen was disappointing. He's supposed to be like this TE/WR hybrid, and at times he seemed to be an outcast out on the field, and it showed, as his production seemed to wane late in the season even as the Panthers started finishing games.

    • The Bucs waived shilo sanders after he got ejected.
    • I'm just tired of ppl saying he's so accurate and then have to see recievers slow down to recieve the ball, ruining any chance at YAC
    • Some people will really look at stuff like this and say "no more excuses" but then make excuses to try and explain away the validity of big-time throws. 🙃   Back on topic though, as I mentioned in the other AT thread earlier, I hope that the team is still exploring the deal. If the Vikings want the Panthers to take on some of the salary, then it had better be at worst a 4th-round pick (though I imagine Dan angling for a 3rd). If they're willing to take on all of it, then maybe at worst a 5th. Tough pill to swallow, giving up a 4th for a 35yr old WR, but if MIN believes they can have similar success behind McCarthy then it could be a smart deal for them. Hell, if AT has any gas in the tank and gives them a 1yr sweetheart deal to close out at home, even better for Minnesota. Yea, Bryce loses his best and most reliable WR. Hunter Renfrow though isn't what I would call a huge step down though (if he's as advertised throughout camp), and it gives more reps to TMac + XL + Coker. This season is all about continued development and answering some of the looming questions (Is Bryce the guy? Is Evero the DC going fwd? How do the young WRs develop? How long does it take this defense to bounce back from being historically awful?).
