They'd probably have to throw in a 2nd or 3rd. Not sure I'd want to trade down that far though...we could get two new starters probably (a new DT in maybe Still or Brockers but more likely Poe or Thompson and a new CB in Minnifield or one of the other 2nd tier guys) but less likely to get a real impact player. If we got their #27 and #31/32 and their #63/64, then traded back up to the mid to late teens using the #27 and our #41/42 (assuming we get their 2nd also) to ensure getting Brockers or Still or some other impact player I'd be more ok with it.

Although, a second look at the value chart (yea I know it's just a rough guide, not a rule) says the #27 + their #63/64 would be enough to get back up into the mid to late teens by itself. Leaving us with that first pick (probably somewhere between #16-20), #31/32, and #41/42.

In that scenario I'd like:

#16-20 (whichever we could trade back up to using their #27 and 63/64): Brockers or Still

#31/32: Zach Brown could fall this far. If he doesn't, Minnifield or even Kirkpatrick could fall that far due to the weed and injury concerns.

#41/42: If we get Brown: Minnifield, Gilmore, Dennard or even Jenkins could be available here. If not, Markelle Martin should be available. If we don't get Brown and take a CB at #31/32 Martin would probably be my first choice, followed by an OT or OLB.

A trio of those players would be a dream draft.

I guarantee they move back into the second round with one of their two first rounders with someone wanting to trade back into the bottom of the first round.

You are also correct that they would bend Hurney over pretty bad.

That isn't New England's style. They try to acquire as many draft picks as possible. Usually trading back.

Not that there's any pass rushers they'd move up to our spot to take, but the kind of pass rushers they need are different than the kind we need (for the most part). They are about a 50/50 split between defensive schemes, but I think they still use a 3-4 OLB more than a 4-3 DE. And if NE would trade up for us, it'd be more worth our while to get more picks than to take that one guy. They don't need quite as many holes filled as we do, so it may be worth it to them to use a few picks on 1 guy whereas it'd be more beneficial to us to get more picks.

With that said, stirs is right. They usually trade down, not up. This scenario is extremely unlikely, but it's fun to speculate.

BB might fall in love with a Nick Perry or Whitney Mercilus and decide to move ahead of some teams to get him. he has the ammo to do so, and i bet he still gets another 1st for next year with one of those 2nd rounders.

pats will most likely trade one of their first rounders, but they won't be trading up. that's not their MO.

there's a couple teams i could see doing it in the first like the redskins or dolphins for RG3, the bears for blackmon (i've heard that they desperately want a blue chip WR and are willing to trade to get him), the bengals for richardson, the cowboys for kirkpatrick (which they probably won't need to do because he's dumb and hurt his draft stock).

those are just off the top of my head. the bengals are likely the only one who would trade with us, imo. maybe the texans b/c i ehar they are wanting another legit WR across from AJ, but after blackmon there's about 4 or 5 in which there isn't a lot of seperation or difference in quality so they probably wouldn't have to trade up to find the guy they need.

Thanks to trading back and loading up on picks, the Pats were able to take Brandon Spikes and gamble on his lack of speed. When he's healthy that appears to be a home run pick for them in the late 2nd round.

Not likely they trade up, but back again possibly.
