Janoris Jenkins

CB from Northern Alabama

5-10, 191 lbs, runs a 4.46

I've been reading updates from nepatriotsdraft.com as they've had great coverage of the senior bowl practices so far. Jenkins is a guy that's been getting praise all week.

From Day 2

North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins is by far the best CB prospect here at the senior bowl. He is such a good coverage CB. He is always in good position, can flip his hips and plays with such a smoothness. He makes great breaks on the ball and has the speed to run with almost anyone. Jenkins looked a little bit rusty and he still was able to stand out. He has generated a ton of buzz down here and there is no doubt in my mind he is going in round 1.

From Day 3

-Janoris Jenkins, CB out of North Alabama really continues to impress down here. I can’t say enough good things about him. If you were to find a flaw in his game, it might be that he can get turned around at times on deeper routes, but he’s a really physical corner who pro WRs will have a very tough time getting out on their routes against.

Also from Day 3

North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins was once again the star of the South practice for me. I know my job was to watch the offense but Jenkins just keeps standing out in 7 on 7 drills. He shut down whomever he covered today.

Jeff Fuller had no shot against him. Dwight Jones beat him off the line but while the ball was in the air Jenkins used his make up speed to swat the ball away at the last second.

The way he breaks on the ball when he sees it is on another level. On three separate occasions today it looked like he was beaten inside, but all three times he was able to get there exactly when the ball got there to swat it away. As I told Doug Kyed on the ride back from practice, Jenkins might be the best player in Mobile. The kid has top 10 talent no doubt about it, whether he goes that high remains to be seen.

If Claiborne is gone, this guy should be considered.

From wiki:

On June 1, 2009, Jenkins was arrested near a bar by Gainesville Police for fighting and resisting arrest after punching a man in the head around 2 AM. Police were forced to use a taser on Jenkins after fighting escalated. When asked why the fight started, Jenkins told police it was because he thought someone was going to steal the gold chain around his neck.

He was also arrested for da weedz last year.

sheesh.

well there's that...

but god damn this is the one guy I really want if we could somehow trade back with the Bengals for their two firsts and draft Brockers/Still and Jenkins.......

What player would the Bengals want so bad that they give up 2 first rounders?

Trent Richardson?

doubtful I know, but someone like Blackmon could entice them too. A receiving corps of Blackmon and Green is frightening

They used to have Ochocino and Housemanzadeh (bad sp) during their heydays so it's not totally out of the realm of possibility

we'd probably have to throw in a later round pick to sweeten the deal

If we trade back, Jenkins will be gone. I can see him be elevated to a top 10 talent by draft time. If we don't pick Jenkins with our first pick then there is reason to pick any other cb in the draft.

That said jenkins has to be our first pick DL is alot deeper. But I also think we need a LB in the 2nd, I would be happy either way as long as it's defense.

If the staff thinks we are ok at cb then that changes everything then we could go DL in the first LB or ??? That RB in today's practice, I forgot his name and think he is playing for the south. They had running routes in the slot and he was burning everyone, they said in a interview with him that expected to run a 4.1 -4.2 40 now that is fast ,speed kills in the NFL . I just he was very interesting to maybe consider but I don't know where.

    • 31st rushing D and 8 carries by Rico is coaching.  Rico is easily the best offensive weapon right now and it’s not really close.  *literally everyone knows Dalton is washed, horrible and shouldn’t even be a backup QB.   Drive 1? ZERO carries.  Coaching.  Drive 2 - Rico was playing great.   Did Canales lean into that or go for “balance”? Coaching. Drive 3 - ZERO carries.  Coaching  Drive 4 - 1 carry and opted for Jimmy Horn gadget rush (you can’t stick  with the Horn repetitive gadget runs each week and that’s not a better idea than getting Rico going)  Drive 5 - basically Dalton heavy as the half expired.  I don’t need to watch a game to know it’s coaching.  The gameplan wasn’t about setting Rico up to go off on a trash rush D.  It was bullshit harmony balance of the rush and the pass and making Hubbard feel good.
    • In the locker room after the Dallas game, multiple  players said FEED him when Canales mentioned Rico stats. That already made me think even the locker room wouldn't care if Rico got the touches rn. This is on Canales indeed and I agree n the Qb take.  We aren't winning  bc of Bryce  but he has been managing it. Had the Jets had Qb aptitude,  we could've probably  lost that game too. All they would've needed is 14 points. Regardless, we got a team  that's being built up and that position needs an overhaul.
    • I think he was trying to mimic the Lions with Montgomery and Gibbs. They are just more of the exception to the rule and Brooks was too much of a gamble to be a Gibbs type player. The Lions also didn’t sign Montgomery and draft Gibbs until their offense was nearly set. It was more of a luxury take the offense to the next level type of deal.
