Who would you pick??

Hypothetically speaking, lets say our coaches grade all of these players the same exact grade (8.5 on a scale of 1-10).I say the same exact grade so you take your emotional feelings about the specific player out of the equation, therefore selecting the position who best fills an immediate need/keeps us from drafting this high ever again.Who do you want us to pick? Vote and chime in on why you support that certain player/position

If they all have the same grade and are all going to be potential pro-bowl caliber players. I say we take Coples and put him across from CJ and create a dominant pass rush. Out DTs will get better but we need elite pass rush and as we see from Jared Allen, J-Pep, and Aldon Smith type players..you generate pressure from the DE spot. Plus we can't afford an elite pass rusher in FA but we can afford a DT.

If they're all the same level, Brockers is the obvious choice. DT is the most integral position on the defensive side of the ball for fielding an elite defense. Jenkins is the secid choice, but Brockers edges him out because having a dominant interior generally improves your secondary.

Mathematically speaking, if you have 5 equal grades, then you look at quantity. There are "very" few OLB's that can come in and make a difference in the upcoming draft. This is why, in the above scenario, I picked Brown.

I disagree however that Brown will be an immediate starter. Think he will be picked on potential and could even be there when we pick in the second round. But, I went with your scenario.

i think as is coples is more talented, i just question his motor and motivation level.

if they were all equally graded out, though, i think having that anchor on the Dline will provide the most benefit against both the run and the passing game. it would provide that elite talent at DT we have been needing. we need to have at least one premier talent at each position, imo. this is a position that is in desperate need of one and that would provide the most help.

I don't think we can afford an elite player at any position in free agency. If we got a DE, as good as Johnson on the other side I agree that would be great.

I agree with this sentiment as well. If Brockers turns out to be an elite run stuffer and collapse the pocket on passing downs it would make the secondarys job much easier. I also think we can pick up a quality corner in the 2nd, I really like Minnifield if hes there. My only fear is there could be a big run on corners before our 2nd round pick.

I think I would wait until later on LB's. We may have Davis back, if nothing else Senn is okay and we may be able to find an affordable fill in like a Na'il diggs in free agency.

i didnt vote because i think its a split between the two DL.both would improve this defense by a lot.

I have not yet voted either because I am torn between the 2 as well. I also would love another shutdown corner and afraid there may be quite the run on them before we pick again in the 2nd . Remember Captain gave up the highest 2nd passer rating when thrown at last year. Hardy was atrocious against the run so I feel like we need to improve that position. DT, is a big question mark with Edwards coming back and what level of progression we will see from Fua/Mcclain/Kearse.

i agree with not having captain starting next year, but we still have Hogan and Butler. plus the CB class is deep with talent this year, so maybe a reach wont be as bad.

Why do people think that if we add some magical pass rusher that we automatically get lotza and lotza sacks!

You must have a dominant DT to have a consistently good pass rushing DL. To think otherwise is simply contradictory to basic laws of the game. It doesn't matter how many good DE's you have without interior pressure.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone and we have Taylor Moton inked to a recent extension. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
