Might be nice to have off season and team report

“Not just necessarily the corner, but the pass rush,” he said when asked about draft priorities. “I think you have to have pass rush. You have to put pressure on the quarterback, as well. So I think it’s a combination or a mixture of both.”

Thought this blurb was interesting:

Losing the coin toss with Miami for the eighth overall pick won’t change the draft plans drastically, but it could complicate the Panthers’ efforts to make moves on draft weekend.

Having the quarterback-needy Dolphins behind them in the order might have helped the Panthers trade back, an idea the front office is always interested in listening to.

The Panthers are without a third-round pick after last summer’s trade for tight end Greg Olsen, and there’s a sense that they’d be willing to move back to the middle of the first round if they could add later picks.

Being in front of the Dolphins might have made that easier, as anyone wanting to move up for a quarterback such as Texas A&M’s Ryan Tannehill would have been likely to call, since the Dolphins have a natural link there with Tannehill’s old college coach Mike Sherman on staff now.

It'll be interesting to see if Manning becomes a factor as far as Washington and Miami go. If he were to become available that could change either of those team's draft plans instantly. The Tannyhill angle is becoming a hotter topic. We might just find either an unexpected BPA falling to 9, or a really favorable trade down situation depending on how things shake out.

I don't know why people think our offense would really change much if we kept a slower QB like Anderson.? We'd lose the read option (which we'll probably call less this year) but outside of that, it's not like our offense really changes with Anderson in. I mean, of course it gets worse, but not because he can't run, moreso because he's not that good of a passer. Same for most other QBs. I'd prefer mobility but not a requirement.

Anderson knows Chuds offense as well as any one around. He's a Pro Bowl QB you don't get to be that for nothing. He got caught laughing in a serious time and the media ran with it. They crucified the guy for laughing at wrong time. This guy got used to getting beat in Pop Warner! He understands you might want to win every week but the reality is no one can do that so learn and go on.

I like him and hope he wants to stay for cheap!

THis was the same stuff Rivera said a week or two ago. I wonder if it is a rehash or the current thinking. If we can take it literally, then it looks like a DE and corner in the first 2 rounds and OT in the 4th. I sure hope that Davis and Beason come back healthy. The lack of healthy linebackers killed the defense last year. It concerns me that we aren't planning to bring in guys to replace Davis is he gets hurt and backup Beason if he has a setback. Maybe after years of injuries and issues, I am just a little skeptical that we will avoid the injury bug this year. Developing a pass rush and bringing in a corner doesn't help when a QB can dump off the ball to a wide open back or tight end left uncovered.

Not sure what you're talking about? Please don't go into this linebacker fetish you have for Kuechly. That's what free agents are for. To backup.

1. I think that we will be able to trade, because it seems almost like a shoe-in that Matt Flynn is going to Miami, especially with Joe Philbin being there, and especially since the report came out that Green Bay won't franchise tag Flynn to trade him.

2. I seriously doubt Peyton Manning would go to the 'Skins, because he doesn't fit Shanahan's offense, in any way shape or form. Shanahan has ran the stretch offense for years now, and it requires a QB with movement/mobility. Peyton is an aging guy who couldn't run fast when he was 20. Now that he's had four neck procedures and is over 30, how well do you think he can move? I would expect somewhere like Arizona, Seattle, or maybe even Kansas City is where Peyton could go.

3. Pat Shurmur has said that he doesn't know where RGIII would fit into his short pass/West Coast Offense, but he thinks he could. I'm not sure Cleveland is willing to risk it. With Montario Hardesty a free agent, and Peyton Hillis acting like a mad man, I think they really want Trent Richardson right there at 4. But, they also have another 1st round pick at the back-end of the 1st round, which could be enough fodder to move up and take Tannehill.

Why is it a fetish when it is something you disagree with? Free agents are only to backup? Really? Nobody knows our needs at LB--you included--but everyone knows that free agents are not just to backup others. Make good points and appreciate others' opinions, even if you disagree. Is that hard?

I'm saying we will likely get lower-grade FA's to backup Davis, and Beason plus Thomas Williams showed a lot of promise, and a few others. Let's spend a high draft pick on a player that's gonna back-up. We have other needs, I would put WR over a drafting a LB.

I can honestly say I think that's absolutely insane. No one even knows if Davis can play anymore, much less how much he can contribute, and if he can contribute in a full-time starting role. I would say if Davis does play this year, he will be the back-up, not some dude out of FA or the draft.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
