Panthers Are Listening To Offer For J-Stew

How is it epically stupid to not want to trade a proven commodity for an unknown. Unless we can g et a Proven player or a first round pick, which we will not get! Just keep him for the year. One year of a great running back is worth more the unknown to me. Sorry i dont want to trade one of our best player in his prime for a fugin draft pick.

"if we trade stewart who's going to rush for 700 yards for us next year y'all"

depending on how they feel about his future here, I think if someone offers a 2nd we would be wise to take it. as much as I think Stew really fits this offense well, it seems extremely unlikely we will be able to keep him and Dwill along with our other RBs without really strapping outself down as far as what we can spend elsewhere.

I would prefer we find a way to keep double trouble together without hurting the offense but I am just not sure if we can.

One thing to note is that if Stewart walks, we do not get NOTHING back, I am pretty sure we get a 3rd rounder (well, end of the 3rd round) so while I do think we should trade him I do not think we should trade him at any cost

edit: actually I think MadHatter is right, I don't think he would end up netting us a late 3rd...

so whats what? its good to know someone here knows what really goes on behind the scenes

They don't........ If a GM doesn't listen to offers he's not doing his job. No player is off limits.

GM's talk to each other all the time concernings player trades. sometimes the media knows about them and some are confidential

and believe me.......teams have been inquiring about JStew whether Hurney admits it or not.

At best, we would get a pick at the end of the 3rd round in 2014. Due to Stew splitting carries, he may not even get that....might only get a pick at the end of the 5th round in 2014.

Anyone who would rather let him walk at the end of this season and get av5th round compensatory pick....rather than trade for a 2nd rounder in this year's draft is beyond ridiculous....they are pathetic.

I understand the front offices desire to trade J-stew. Lets be honest, we will not have the money to sign him next year. We either trade him this offseason, or lose him.

Our new offense does not require two great RB's. We can make due with Williams and possibly trade into the 2nd round and solidify our defense.

I WOULD HATE THE IDEA OF J-STEW PLAYING SOMEWHERE ELSE. But, it makes the most sense!

So I still don't get why a team would value Stew for a 2nd considering he's got only one year left on his contract. Yeah, his 2012 price is affordable, but then what? Franchise tag or watch him possibly command top money? Sounds like depending on the landing point he could prove to be more trouble than he's worth. Maybe it wouldn't be a sticking point but I'm not seeing the team giving up a second as being happy to make that deal. Maybe a trade involving another player? IDK...

The problem with involving a trade with another player is the CAP. We simply have none and Stewart is still on his rookie contract, which basically means he is playing for next to nothing. If we would do a player swap, we would need to find a player under contract to make practically nothing (another player on their rookie contract most likely)

Well the cap is always a factor, but those type things work themselves out when a deal is being put together. Best I can tell teams aren't going to be interested in giving a second round pick for a player with one year left on their contract. When our management says they aren't shopping him, I can believe that. If that is true, how in the world is some team going to come here and knock our socks off with a deal considering the contract they pick up? Everything points to him staying IMO. I'll be concerned about 2013 after we finish 2012.

1) Trade Stew while we can still get something for him.

1A) Trade Stewy for draft pick(s).

1B) Trade Stewy for an established player.

2) Let Stewy player this year. Let him walk next year, and take the comp 3rd rounder.

3) Throw Stewy in with our #9, move up and take Claiborne.

4) My personal favorite. Let this year play out, and then see where the stiuation leads.

That is a whole lot of scenarios my friends. And that is just off the tippy top of my head.

I will say this. IF Stewy is traded. It is more than likely both sides know he wants to leave. I, however, see him playing this year. Then worrying about where he is going to sign. If we have a good year, the O looks good, and Stewy has a good year. I see no reason to believe he will leave.

We take care of our own. And GOOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. #4 at least. Never give up your best players. These idiots would trade Newton for a draft pick.

Ok you have two options. A year worth of kinky sex with a super model who may end up marrying you afterwards. Or 4 years of sex with someone potentially busted and bad in bed. Hmm give me the memories with the super model and ill take my chances convincing her to stay with me after said year.

Do you honestly believe this is a good analogy?

    • I've been hearing all about this "winning culture" for years while watching us piss away top shelf draft position with meaningless late season wins when we're already eliminated from the playoffs but being assured this is building "winning culture" just to inevitably suck again next year. With that said, I'll always take a playoff berth. Just make the dance and you have a chance to make some noise. But spare me the "winning culture" bullshit.
    • Winning culture trumps ALL.    Here’s my way to long take:  Last season this team started out breaking the sports books and being the lead pipe lock of the week. They finished by being a tough out for both SB teams.  I don’t think they’ll pick up right where they left off, but for the first time in years they’re on the legitimate upswing. Honest to God NFL talent has been infused.  Offense is already going to be good for 2-3 more 3rd down conversions (I don’t think anyone will argue that) a game over last year so I’ll go (very optimistically) 5-6 more points better than last year’s team. ADDED: A legit backup RB and a money WR who catches everything, along with 2 promising rooks. No significant losses (sorry Miles). KEYS: Can Dave bob and weave play calling if things aren’t working? Does protection continue to hold for Bryce. Did this team pick up dudes who know how to find the end zone or will the struggle of 3rd and goal continue.  Defense. If they can force even 2 (hopefully 3) more stops a game on third down (not asking a lot, hopefully more), that’s good for -4 (optimistic) points for opposing teams.  ADDED: legit run stuffers. Legit (appearing) edge guys. LOST: Clowney. Question: With legit 3-4 talent can Evero finally show what we have been VERY patiently waiting on? To me, EVERYTHING on defense hinges on Evero. Everything. Every position group was upgraded (still not good enough, but certainly improved).  Losing Brown early and Luvu… completely and utterly devastated the run defense. Luvu put up one of the best seasons at LB this team has ever seen. His under appreciation by some fans was criminal. He alone was our 3 down stop machine. Brown was pretty much it up front. Those 2 held RBs in check long enough for safety help to arrive.  Coaching: Halftime adjustments and no prevent defense. In a nutshell, that’s pretty much it. No cutesy offense to show off WRs/Bryce when it’s not working. Use your sledgehammers, Dave.  There is finally veteran leadership and legit NFL talent. It’s going in the right direction (I couldn’t have been more wrong last offseason) to build a winning culture, but teams have to learn how to win, especially the games where nothing is going right (this team has NEVER been able to do that). They will still lose more close games than they win, and that alone is where it all hinges.
    • With his current level of play I'm quite content to not activate his 5th year option and let him walk away for free after year 4.
