The Best/worst Of Marty Hurney

I see so much frustration towards Marty Hurney on this board...seems to be a polarizing figure of the team. I think he's done a pretty good job evaluating talent over the years but he has definitely made some serious blunders...here's the best and worst moves he's made in my opinion.

Best:

#1: Drafting Cam Newton

#2: The trade back with the Jets in the 2007 draft that netted Jon Beason and Ryan Kalil.

#3: Signing Jake Delhomme

Worst:

#1: Trading away a first round draft pick in the 2010 draft for Everette Brown (no longer on the team)

#2: Trading away a second round pick in the 2011 draft for Armanti Edwards

#3: Re-signing players like Thomas Davis and Deangelo Williams to huge contract extentions in 2011, while each was coming off a poor season, crippling the team to make moves in free agency in 2012.

What do you think the best/worst moves Marty Hurney has made for the team?

Additional worst moves

Paying Pep during Fox's lameduck season and letting him walk..... Unlike a RB a DE like Peppers had real value that could of helped a team he clearly didn't want to be a part of going forward.

I think not paying Moose was a mistake as well. Spent years trying to replace him.

Worst: Signing Delhomme after he throws 5 picks to the Cards in 08. He paved their way to the SB, that should've been us! We signed an old man that had a season ending injury without even getting hit, the same year he signed his extension. We then release him shortly after, waste of guaranteed money IMO.

Best: Cam n Steve Smith.... faces of the franchise

Who cares what he's done. He's an average at best GM and our team's record proves it. Cam might be able to bail him out, but I doubt it. I don't see why he still has a job here. Most GMs in the league have nabbed great players in the Draft. So Hurney is nothing special there. He has us in cap trouble now too. The guy just isn't that good.

yep, his over the top deals after Fox left sealed it for me.....that he and Fox should of been tied at the hip. Both gone.

Bad- Dwayne Jarrett and basically every second round selection he's ever made except Kalil.

Dwayne Jarret wasn't a bad pick at all. He was great in college and was considered one of the top three WRs in his class. Would've been snatched up if we didn't draft him. Not predicting the future doesn't make you a bad GM.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
