Who Is The Player You Pray The Panthers Don't Draft?

I will start.

DT Dontari Poe, Memphis. Most mocks (30+% according to DC Mocks) have us taking Poe. He is a workout warrior. His game film shows a weak motor and he is on the ground a lot. His stats were not good compared to other players from bigger schools who got double teamed weekly--he was SECOND team ALL CONFERENCE USA.

Personally, I think he is hyped by the media because his freakish combine made him look like a stud. He is not. From what I can gather, he is not high on a lot of boards.

CRAZY PREDICTION: (I do not think it is)--He wll be one of the biggest fallers in the draft. Look for him to be drafted in the top 12--of the second round.

Poe.

He's an amazing athlete for his size, but he doesn't know how to use his weight or strength against opponents both larger and smaller than him.

His motor is almost non-existent.

He's constantly on his ass, pancaked by people 50 pounds less than him.

Would take him as a risk in the second, but I know there's no way he'll make it down there because of his amazing combine, so I say NO to him at 9.

Coples. I worry about all of the things that come along with him. The questions about him taking plays off (it's much worse for a player of Coples athleticism to take plays off than a guy the size of Poe), and the worries about the things that happened at Carolina.

Yeah I've been vocal about not wanting Poe too. He's started 30 games and yet he's as raw as a cucumber. When you're drafting a project you're pretty much predicting him to develop after 2 years or so. If he can't develop after starting for 2 years in college, why would he be any different after 2 years in the nfl?

Still also scares me for different reasons. He just gets injured way too often.

Dontari Poe. Riding a combine isn't enough for me.

Alshon Jeffery (Jeffrey, Jeffries), He's over rated and I wouldn't want him in the second either. Regardless of QB Issues and schemes, his physique is his meal ticket. Rather have Hill who was somewhat productive in a run first offense as well and never fluctuated in weight.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
