Bill Parcell To Accept Saints Head Coaching Job If Offered

Legendary coach Bill Parcells confirmed that he's interested in joining the Saints organization in light of coach Sean Payton's one-year suspension.

"I had plenty of opportunities to do things with different teams, and I've turned them all down," Parcells said. "But this one is special. This guy is like family to me. And if I could help him, I would." While both Payton and Parcells maintain that no job offer has been made, the club may simply be biding time to come up with a candidate to circumvent the Rooney Rule.

I guess i'm one of the very few who thinks this is a good move for the Saints. Parcells is respected by the owners, coaches and players across the NFL. Also, who exactly were the Saints to promote? Spags? He has his hands full with implementing his system and figuring out who will be allowed the play. Carmichael Jr? Without Payton over his shoulder he will need to concentrate on calling the plays on offense. I really think its a good move. Saints are in a tight fix. They are damned if they do, damned if they don't right? Parcells has been thru the wars before, he knows how to handle a circus. Which is something the younger coaches could get caught up in.

Is it the fact that they hired an outsider or just Parcells that many of you don't like.

OC or DC.

Payton wanted his suspended Lb coach to be the guy......if they excelled without Payton the guy doesn't have the resume that you could wash your hands of Payton. If the OC or DC stepped in and had success........why do you need to bring back a liar and guy the league hates? Payton wanted a guy in place that regardless of the Saints success that the owner would have to have him back.

Parcells beats to his own drum.....and he will alter things? Parcells is great at what he does.....what he does isn't needed in NO

Yeah it was a smart move by Payton but it is also a smart move by the Saints Org. Look, they're not going to fire Payton next year regardless of wins or loses. Who ever is the head man this year, Payton will be back. You can't just promote the DC (Spags)he's kind of an outsider as well + he was terrible as the Rams coach. Carmichael the (OC) is too inexperienced to be the head man, especially in this situation. You guys are acting like Parcells will reform the offense and bench Jimmy Graham lol.

Maybe he can get some of his friends at the aarp to fill the other vacancies in their coaching staff. Bob Dole would make a great GM. Or they could stop trying to weasel thier way out of this punishment and save those FEMA dollars for something useful? Ya do the crime, ya do the time!

    • So Willis had a good game against a poor defense and all of a sudden he is worth 50 million and is guaranteed to be better than Young. LOL I know he looked good in the 3 games he started, and I think he will have success long term, but anyone signing him up for a long term contract for 50 million is taking a huge risk.
    • Is he really though? Rivera was past his prime and probably shouldn't have even started 2019 so his firing wasn't really unexpected or unwarranted. Rhule lasted two and a half years which was about one year too long in my opinion. Bringing him back that third year certainly wasn't impulsive and I would say Tepper was more patient than he should have been. Wilks finished out that third season and did pretty good but most everyone could see he really wasn't anything more than an intern HC. Bringing him back was not the long term answer so not bringing him back was the correct call. Hiring Reich was a mistake from the beginning and he recognized that fairly quickly. I am sure he knew he was going to catch a lot of sh*t for firing him so quickly ( and boy did he ) but it was absolutely the right thing to do given everything that was going on. The firing may have looked impulsive, but I think it was him recognizing he had royally f*ck up and just dealt with it instead of letting it fester.  That brings us to Canales. 2025 was only his second season and yet he delivered 8 wins and the NFC South title. And while that might not sound great, given the lack of talent and cap space they started with, it's a strong step in the right direction. I couldn't imagine Tepper not being pleased with their progress given the crap the Panthers' have been though under his ownership.
