Rumor: Mike Goodson Traded To The Raiders?

Not cool! Looking at his overall career as Panther, he was neither unproductive or overrated. In fact, he was probably marginally productive because he was undervalued (or, at the very least, logically sitting behind Williams and Stewart). His only real negative---which is his biggest question mark---is fumbling. He had a bad stint which seemed magnified because they came in a relatively short period, but they were hopefully out of character.

Why can't you just wish him the best? Your bid at cleverness doesn't quite hit the mark.

I was referring to the players in raiders past (fast, unproductive, and overrated) and to what Goodson will probably become with them (fast and unproductive). There is no evidence in his tenure with us that he will be anything but that. And he really didn't show that he will be unproductive in the future either. But rather, and get this, it's just my guess!

He's coming to a better situation here. Kalil and Gross can help mentor and push him. Protecting Cam and blocking for Double Trouble has to be exciting for the kid. This guy should be our project this year. The one we try to get to put it all together in a hurry just like we did with Cam.

We wouldn't have traded for Campbell if we didn't think we could get something out of him. Otherwise we would have just taken the 6th rounder and bid Goodson ado.

What does this say about Otah?

Otah poos all over Bruce. If Otah can get on the field....there isn't anyone we could bring in better. But who knows if he can stay on the field or even get on it for a game.

Campbell was likely a lineman the Panthers had their eye on in the draft, they just didn't draft him in time.

remember the Panthers FO is one of the best in the league at scouting O-linemen.

If they think they can fix him, I trust them.

Must be something. I'm sure he will be gone if he doesn't change, and you never know it might just be the Raiders...

Not sure I could get excited about playing for the Raiders. Could be he just needs people around him to show him how to be a pro. As for expectations, I have the same for him as I had for Goodson...zero.

I remember several mock drafts had the Raiders taking Bruce Campbell in the top 10 a couple years ago.. he is a huge guy and very athletic. Otah insurance for sure. And could compete at OG if Otah is healthy again.

    • TBH, these are the kind of players that get weeded out of professional sports pretty quickly. Also, CMC is not that guy. There is zero indication that he isn't competitive.
    • I like the free agency. It actually helps basically all schools across the board. Pretty much only ancient HC's and/or HC's that haven't been able to adjust have been complaining about the free agency. Your fortunes can be made or broken every offseason. It's not like before where a bad recruiting class or two meant multiyear purgatory.  I will never understand all the bellyaching about the NIL. If you want to talk about what ruined college athletics, it has been naked greed. Conference expansions for TV revenue, ever skyrocketing AD and facilities costs and now the attempts to permanently ruin the postseasons(football and basketball).  All the kids did was get a very well deserved piece of a very, very, VERY broken pie.
    • Nobody is saying they don't count against the cap, because yes, they technically do count against the cap as it's money the team is paying and it needs to be accounted for. But what you're not grasping it seems is that if a player gets $10 million guaranteed in their contract, whether they get literally $0 as a signing bonus or $8 million as a signing bonus, it doesn't change the overall cap hit of the contract, because cap hits are about the guaranteed money, not how much is paid up front. The only thing that how much is paid up front changes, is how the cap hit can be spread out amongst the years. So yes, technically there could end up being a slightly bigger cap hit in year 3 and 4 due to a bigger signing bonus, but if that is the case, it also means there will be a lesser cap hit in years 1 and 2 than there would have been with a smaller bonus.  But over the length of the contract, the size of the signing bonus has literally zero affect on the overall cap hit of the contract, because THAT part of it is 100% about the guaranteed money and nothing else.
