Bruce Campbell A Panther...

Wow, he is extremely raw. Pad levels stay way too high, and most of his good blocks are a product of him using his physicality to outmuscle much smaller defenders than are typical in the NFL. I hope his technique has improved, because from what I can see it is very limited. Hopefully he responds to coaching (the Raiders coaching staff has seen so much turmoil over the years its hard to judge how much they can actually improve a player.)

The body is there for a dominating freak, but he needs some serious polish before I'd trust him with Cam's blind side.

Now, all that being said, the sheer fact we could pick up some OL depth out of Goodson makes this a great trade.

Matsko: Hey Campbell, you see the guys in black and gold?

Campbell: MLEURRRGGGHHHHH

Matsko: Knock as many of them over as possible.

Campbell: MLEURRGGH?

Matsko: Get 'em soldier

Campbell: MLEEEEEUUURGGGHHHHHHHHAAAARGHHHHH

*all the saints players die*

I don't think it really matters "who got the better end of the trade", or which player is better at their positions. Goodson barely suited up for us last year and was most likely getting cut. We got a young OL that could at least turn into solid depth. We got something for nothing, same thing (to a lesser extent) as what the Bengals got out of the Raiders last year. Great trade for us. Even if the guy ends up getting cut too, at least we made a move to try to address an area of need. We would have traded one guy we were gonna cut for another guy we're gonna cut. If he does pan out, it's one less thing we need to worry about in the draft.

raiders were ready to move on as well, the fact that these players were expendible is completely irrelevent to whether it was a good trade or not.

but of course no use telling you that you think it's a good trade even if campbell ends up getting cut LOL

hows that "getting something for nothing" work out if we end up cutting campbell? what exactly do we get then? and if goodson ends up being a solid #2 back for them and we lost stewart next year, still gave up nothing? LOL

I'm willing to give the guy a chance. Raiders have awful coaching and this guy needs it, so there was probably the worse place for him to land in the league.

The Panthers see his potential and think they can get the best out of him. If he makes the final roster, I think that will be a good sign.

There is basically no risk but has potential to have huge rewards.

If Campbell ends up getting cut then at least it was an attempt to improve. We still gave up nothing to get nothing. Nothing wrong with that. Goodson could end up being their #1 and it still doesn't affect our end of the bargain, because no one could have known that would happen and there's no way we could have gotten more for him anyway. I don't think anyone disagrees that Goodson was most likely getting cut, and in light of that we gave up nothing and potentially got something for it.

    • Thielen was a "dawg" like Dan Morgan likes to say. And they replaced him with puppies.  The analytics are probably saying this is more targets for younger receivers they are hoping to develop, specifically the first round pick from 2025. The eye test is going to show a very inexperienced group of WRs that are going to have some serious growing pains, for a 3rd year QB who has not yet proven to be the guy going forward.  It's crazy how in the literal first game of his NFL career, Cam Newton showed everyone he was a star QB and there was never any doubt about that. It almost didn't even matter who was around him, although he definitely had a serious lack of talent at WR for most of his career. Bryce is going into his third season and there is still a ton of doubt, and who is around him is seen as crucial for him to have success. I don't like it.
    • Everyone says AT was old and slow but the one thing he could do consistently was get separation. That takes skill and it's been a huge issue in our WR for years. And while Moore may be a great locker room guy and our WR coach may be a 12 year vet, he's not playing in the game. Vets like AT do what they do because they can see things others don't and exploit it. The DB interview I mentioned before was with Stephon Gilmore after his DPOY season. He was pulling the younger DBs aside showing them things you wouldn't even think you'd be able to tell from the way the receiver was standing.  Seeing what a DB or LB is biting on in game that can give you that half step advantage is huge and we don't have that experience in our WR group right now and I think it could end up hurting us. None of our receivers have lined up against NFL corners successfully on a regular basis. Having someone that can walk over and give you a tip to get a half yard separation can be a difference maker.
    • We only fielded about 4 NFL calibre players on that unit last year.
