Am I Wrong For Thinking...

This whole racist thing is just stupid.... As the guy said earlier the league is predominantly black. By not admitting that there are more athletic African Americans playing football, that's just wrong numerically.... However, to say Kuechly is not going to be good because he is white is a little confusing. Because I think there are good white players at just about every position. However, I used to look at a white receiver and think "He wishes he could play". Wes Welker, Jordy Nelson, along with others have broken that perception.

It's no different from your opinion. But they have seen him play more.

Except that there is nothing to say they are unbiased or informed. Lots of people on here watch every game. From looking at the posts it is pretty obvious they some have no idea what they are talking about. As for what was said of course defense don't funnel running plays to specific linebackers. Linemen take up blockers and contain the edges turning plays back inside where the linebackers make plays. That isn't exactly funneling plays so much as doing their job in the 4-3 scheme. But if people want to call that funneling then so be it. But it wasn't designed for him specifically but is what happens in every 3-4 and 4-3 scheme. The linebackers job is to flow to the ball and make tackles and cover in the short zone.

You are implying that expert opinions are as good as facts. Just giving you a heads up....

Expert opinions that are based on facts are generally reliable. Particularly those that show to be accurate over time. I have my favorites and those I beleive to be better than others. For the draft for example I like Gil Brandt quite a bit.

But opinions are just that, assessments of what folks think based on any number of criteria. They are not the same as facts.

If you can say you notice a trend of poor LBs, based on race you are saying a lot more than you think in that sentence. What other trends can we ignorantley attribute it to race?

Black guys being more atheletic than white guys is a sterotype not racism. Racism is backed by instutional power, as is descrimination.

It's more of an inccorrect attribution (sterotype), than it is racist. A trend is nothing but a trend, it's not a correlation. If I get robbed by a black guy, the situation follow a 'local' or 'global' trend, but it is inaccurate to correlate the race to the behavior.

If you want to prove correlation, cause and effect as well as (most importantley)a high degree of significance, through purely racial measures, you're going to have hard time. So what's all this noonsense mean? It means that if he fails to be a good LB, he may follow a trend but it's absurd to say he is white and that is why, a false correlation.

Are you wrong for thinking this? Yes, but not like you think. You're not morally wrong. Youre wrong as in assuming there is a correlation. A better statement might be "Am I wrong he will follow a trend of..." rather than "Am I wrong because I think he'll fail because he is white...".

Also be aware when people say white, what they're really saying is 'not black' or 'not latino'. That is why race is stupid, inaccurate and is man made; even further proof racial correlations are not only complete crap, but are near impossible to find any significance in it.

If you found out he was French, would it change to French guys can't play LB? Would a new trend start? Probably not. We'd probably all ignore that and just say white vs. black.

    • Seriously? A CB who missed all that time on his rookie deal and was also a top 10 pick when the guys picked right before and after have been studs. A RB our GMs tried to replace with FAs and 2nd rounders and two backup level players is one of the best drafts we’ve ever had? I’d argue that the 2011/2012 drafts were better even with just Cam and Luke/Norman. Here’s the drafts I think were better: 2017, maybe 2018, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2012, 2008, 2007, 2001, 2002 (just Pepp) I’m hoping 2025 is way better as well. Honestly, we’ve kind of sucked at drafting overall and that’s the only reason you can even remotely call Horn, Hubbard, Tremble and BC a good draft let alone one of our best ever. Good teams that draft well would laugh at that as a great draft. If you want to look at say the 2023 Lions draft, you’d get 4 stud/above average/average starters not just 3 replaceable starters/backups and a top 10 pick that missed half his games. That’s a draft that helps turn a team into a playoff team. Our record since our 2021 draft is 19-49. A best ever draft doesn’t go 19-49.
    • I remember when football was great.    Wasn't this century.
    • Bingo. You can't pay that type of player elite franchise QB money. That average starter type player can excel when he's surrounded by top shelf talent in a great offensive system but pay him elite QB money and you're going to really struggle to surround him with the type of talent you need to carry him. You pay those elite franchise QBs because they can carry your roster. You can't pay guys who have to be carried. Bryce showed glimpses down the stretch last year. I really hope he keeps building on that. But before we back up the Brinks truck he needs to show that he's the type of QB who can lift up and carry the offense because when you pay those guys that's what they're gonna have to do.
