Is Stewart Worth A 2Nd Round Pick?

I hate your logic.

It's not touches or yards, it's age. It's the ability to no longer be able to heal between seasons, camps, and for that matter games.

If it was just touches then 34 year old back ups would still be on teams.

RB is a young mans position, more than any other on the football team.

it's both~

edit: both touches and age

How is Stewart's career half way over when he splits time with Williams?

You act like our runningbacks are being abused.

Stewart and even Williams don't have the mileage on them that many other backs do who were drafted the same year as them.

I agree. CRA seems to think once a player hits 25 he is old and dead in value. Plus if Stewart has only played 4 years, he only has 4 left? That's comical. Don't be surprised if the Panthers franchise him next year.

I truly believe after this year, DeAngelo will restructure his contract, giving the Panthers the opportunity to offer Stewart a good deal for a guy of his caliber. If J-Stew wants to go to another team that is going to feature him absolutely as the number one back, I would be willing to deal him for two 3rd round picks. With the first 3rd, I would draft this guy to be our third back (actually second back, and have Tolbert as FB).......

No, my point was both scenarios could have us end with nothing to show for it.

Assuming that we will make a bad pick in the second round as a reason not to trade Stew for a second rounder is about as intelligent as something my 6 yo son would say.

You are forgetting that you are giving up the rights to a cheap young player, for a 1 year deal from Stew.

Even before the deal was finished the other team would have to work out an extension for Stew...under most circumstances.

So you are essentially trading a young cheap talent, for a 26 year old RB that is going to cost you more than we foolishly paid DWill last season.

One year and tag him is what I am talking about....less than we paid for Dwill

Would i want a second for Stewart? No lol, we gave up a first to get him. Why should we beg for a second?

Players depreciate, it's just the nature of the game. No one is gonna give up a first (and I find a second unlikely) for him. Plus there's a good chance that Stewart would be a second round pick today, running backs just don't hold much value these days. Heck, just look at JStew's draft class, he was the second RB taken (After DMC). There's a good chance this year's second RB will be taken in the second round, and that's just assuming JStew was the second best in his class (which he wasn't: Chris Johnson, Ray Rice, Rashard Mendenhall, Matt Forte, and Jamaal Charles were all taken after him). So would you rather trade for a 2nd round quality RB with four years of NFL wear, or just draft one in the second round?

Ahahhhhahhaaaahahhahha. Yes that's exactly what we should do.

Pay DWill like a top 5 back only to use him as a backup. Then tag another RB essentially paying him like a top five back. All the while having Tolbert sitting on the sidelines, and us still not having enough money to bring in a decent DE or DT.

This is a PSA:

You do not need a top tier RB's to win in today's NFL, and you certainly don't need two.

A lot of these guys have bodies that will let them play till they are 34 due to their body being "in-shape". Ricky Williams just retired at the age of 34, so if we apply this concept to Williams and Stewart than Williams has six more years and Stewart has 9 more years.

Most people don't realize that both of them are still fairly young. Especially Stewart.
