Marty Hurney Apparently Lied About Fletcher Cox

Travis Johnson was a 3 year underachiever at FSU before he blew up in his senior year. Cox has been a starter form day 1 at Miss State and had solid production for his 3 years. They are 2 different players.

College production = College production. Johnson was rated higher than Cox is at this point as well.

That was horrible DT draft. Luis Castillo was the next best one and he wasn't picked until 28. Only 3 were pick in the whole 1st round. There is no way you are comparing that the 2005 class to this one are you.

If they pick Cox, then they are admitting that Rivera and Hurney blew it with McClain last year. You don't draft a guy at the 65th pick in the draft and then redraft another the next year unless you have a situation like we did with Clausen. Even then Newton was the number 1 pick in the draft and had huge upside. Cox really doesn't. Now if we had a chance to draft a Suh which is the DT version of Newton, then you do it in a heartbeat. I can't see where Cox provides so much more than a guy we can get in the second round. It we want pass rush both Ingram and Coples bring more to the table by far. At least with Williams and Stewart they waiting 2 years.

Cox had 5 sacks last year and 4 of those were in 2 games. (South Carolina and Kentucky) and 1 against Wake Forest. The other 9 games he had none. Add that he had a total of 3 quarterback hurries and you see a guy who pressured or got to the quarterback a total of 8 times in 12 games. Hardly the terrific pass rusher people are making him out to be.

Funny that Coples had 7.5 sacks and he is considered lazy and unmotivated but Cox has 5 and he has a high motor and never quits.

When you look at all our choices you get the sense that there is not that much to choose from really. Ingram brings the most to the table and by many accounts will be gone when we pick at 9.

You can not base talent on where a player is picked. I randomly picked 2005 because it gives enough time to find players who turned out to be busts. Cody and Babineaux were both better than Johnson and Castillo but this isn't what the draft experts said before the draft.

    • I am high, but that’s besides the point! The blue line is not good right now. I’ve said it all year. I don’t think this group meshes well. Slaven has been just OK Niki up and down Miller up and down ghost and Walker have been your most consistent guys. Maybe it comes together more towards the playoffs
    • I was expecting to see more cap room moves by now, which may be to suggest that we are not going to be that aggressive.  I have mixed emotions about that (because I think we have 3 needs on D and 3 needs on O--starters).  If you look to the draft for 3 starters, that is ambitious.  We need 6
    • Yeah we shouldn’t be competing with teams, bidding wise, to sign a WR. There will be one for us and our budget.  I keep saying, how many balls will there be to go around anyway? One thing good I will say for this offense is the ball has been spread around at times. Seems like I remember seeing a large number of guys have caught passes in a game. Or been targeted at least. 3 RBs 4 or 5 WRs 2-3 TEs type of stat lines. 10-11 guys.  Not every week but that happens.    As far as WR in general, we need the smaller agile and quicker component to compliment what is there. After that it should be about depth, having good backups for the starters so we can run things consistently still, if a guy is out for a week or two. That is especially important in game where you have to finish the game with who you made active.
