So, who will it be? I always hated the idea of moving Beason outside. We first experienced this scenario back in 2010, when Fox plugged Connor at the inside. Beason still had a good season, but clearly his production dropped a little bit. After that season, Rivera came in and I believe he even promised Beason the ILB position was his for the long haul. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong)

Yet now we went and drafted Kuechly. I hate the idea of moving Beason to the outside, but I think I hate it even more to not get the best out of our top 9 overall pick. I believe Kuechly is at his best in the inside, not that he couldn't play on the outside. Yet we've seen Beason play on the outside, and while he wasn't as productive, his productivity only dropped a little. If it came down to me, I would probably place Kuechly on the inside, and move Beason back outside.

I think it'll be Kuechly on the inside and Beason on the outside. Kuechly is an incredibly cover LB, which means he needs to be inside to fully unleash that potential. If you put him on the outside, teams won't fear the blitz, until he can show that he can, indeed, blitz from the LB position.

Beason on the outside allows for more versatility. And honestly, I don't know if his drop in production is because Connor wasn't as a good as he was, causing Beason to have to try and do more than he was supposed to. Maybe with a beast like Kuechly playing MLB, Beason knows he has the freedom to prowl around on the outside, while Kuechly gets production in the middle.

depends on how Beason is when he returns. If he is 100% from day 1 I could see keeping him inside, but more likely I see him taking some time to get back on his feet. It is clear they think that Kuechly can play outside, so we will see.

Was hoping Beason would stay in the middle, but the more I think about it, I believe they will move him outside so Kuechly can become our next Dan Morgan (minus the concussions). Anderson, Kuechly, and Beason is stout! Would love it if T. Davis could move back to safety, but I will save wishful thinking for another thread.

Kuechly will probably play outside, As good as his football instincts are, no way is he more capable of running a defense better than Beason.

It's not just about the individual positions, it's about the overall strength of the defense. Having Beason in the middle will make the whole defense better.

We only moved Beason outside because Conner was incapable of playing OLB, which is not the case with Kuechly.

Edit: Also this thread is ripe for a poll.

    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
