Whos Your Favorite To Win # 2 Corner As Of Right Now And Other Upcoming Camp Battles

Recommended Posts

Yes I know we still have to go through all the camps and preseason but if you had to handicap it who would be your guess.

I really like this Norman kid. Granted I did not even know who the hell he was before the draft but the more I research he seems to have all the tools and skill needed. Sounds like he just needs the coaching. He;s also 2 inches taller than Butler/Hogan and 4 inches taller than Munnerlyn which should help against the taller receivers we will be facing all year.

Munnerlyn is just outmatched when playing the outside and is much better suited for defending the slot. Hogan does not do anything to really jump out at me. I don't know what the hell Butler's problem is. He was off to a nice start as a rookie out in New England and then things went downhill from there.

Other battles that interest me would be every defensive line spot not occupied by Johnson and Edwards.

I think Neblett/Kearse/Mcclain will all be in contention for the 2nd DT spot.

At Defensive end opposite of Johnson, I would hope that Alexander can at least come in and challenge Hardy for the starting job since we traded next years third for him. I also think Applewhite may have an outside chance at it since he did not join the team until October but was still able to have an impact.

Would love to hear everyone elses thoughts as well, and feel free to chime in other position battles that you think may occur.

I've always wondered why people say stuff like this. Why not just say 2nd DE and DT? It makes no sense to say every spot except half.

On topic, FS and WR will be interesting

I predict Norman wins CB2, that Godfrey and Nakamura will be our starting safeties and that Kearse will be the starting DT opposite Edwards.

I do not think we want Norman winning the spot, while he will be a great situational CB to cover larger WR's he dosnt have the speed to keep up with faster WRS.

    • I have been looking for a dropped pass list and all that comes up is QBs. And team stats. When I do receivers I get the passing stats for a handful that threw passes this year.    I wanted to be accurate but anyhow I was looking because thought I remembered reading where T Mac had more drops than XL this year.  One of you many smarter than me people here,I would appreciate it if you know how to pull that up, please do. Thank you.    And yeah I know that isn’t all there is to it I just thought it was interesting.  Of course what the hell is a drop lol.
    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
