Ryne Robinson Vs Joe Adams?

Hopefully Adams doesn't have any serious injuries but being smaller may be an issue. Durability can be a concern.

He's taller than Smitty and only 1 lb smaller than he was coming out. Shouldn't have trouble putting on some NFL weight.

Joe Adams was a consensus first team All American this year. I liked Robinson a lot and wished he could have sproing back from his injury, but as a prospect he wasn't even in Adams' league.

He will need to I think without affecting his speed. Some things I have read suggest that to be equivalent in height/weight for every inch taller it translates to 8-10 lbs in weight. In other words for them to be built similarly, at 5'11" Adams should be around 185-190 to be similar in size to Smitty who has had to battle broken bones over the years as well.

Small college guys don't get the hype but that doesn't mean they aren't good prospects. We all know guys from small schools with little hype who did well while much bigger names fizzled. I don't think that you can decide that Adams will be a success or injury resistant based on being an All American from the SEC anymore than a Heisman guarantees success either. Robinson struggled due to injuries more so than lack of talent. I don't think we can annoint Adams as better or more talented until we see him play a snap or two.

Is our second rounder a poor prospect because he played division II ball?

Both of them were fourth rounders.

Ryne wasn't as quick as Adams

Ryne wasn't a downfield threat

Ryne didn't play in the strongest conference in the nation

Ryne wasn't known as a great kick returner

Robinson was known as an incredible punt returner, he had 7 tds. Adams isn't known as a kicker returner either, he only had 7 kick returns in his career and zero his senior year.

Robinson looked great to me in practice, it just didn't translate to games.

Id argue Robinson was just a good returner....one who played 4 years in a weak conference. 4 years stands out....can really inflate numbers considering no one plays 4

    • Yeah. As a wild card team. Washington won the division at 10-6.
    • no doubt but flip that.   The current system insures that there are "regional" games in the early weeks. maximizing the reach of playoff football.  If all of the WC weekend for a conference took place on the west coast they are reducing the "reach" of their hype machine.
    • Hard to say with London--he never ran--combine or pro day.  Here is what AI says, and it is always 100% accurate: Drake London's 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine was not recorded because he was dealing with a fractured ankle at the time. While he didn't participate in the 40 at the Combine or his pro day, his coach said his 40 time was estimated to be between 4.4 and 4.53 seconds. Some sources also list his 40 time at 4.58 and 4.6 seconds Unless you are running 9s all day, top end 40 speed is rarely reached.  I have always looked at the 3-cone drill.  At his pro day, TMac ran a 6.86--pretty good, actually.  For context, it is faster that Rome Odunze (6.88) who ran a 4.45 40.  Odunze is 6'3" and weighs 216, fwiw, and is considered a very good route runner with no wasted motion.  Mike Evans 3-cone was 7.08.  To put it in a broader context, through 2022, with all NFL prospect 3-cone drills combined, a 6.86 puts TMac in the.89th percentile-  Now consider the fact that he is 6'4" and 220.   We might have something here.  '
