Jared Green Piece At Panthers.com

Recommended Posts

Piece on green.

Green said he heard from several teams that he could be a sixth- or seventh-round draft pick, and he hoped his time had come when the Panthers called him early in the seventh round. Carolina instead drafted California safety D.J. Campbellicon-article-link.gif, but shortly after the draft the Panthers called back, and Green didn't hesitate.

"I basically fell in love with them way before, when I had worked out for them and had different conversations with them over the past few months," Green said. "So when other teams called, my heart was already leaning toward Charlotte.

"I used to go to training camp with my father and sleep in the dorm. They would give him a room with two beds, and I would sleep there. I even went to meetings. I've been here before, but this is a great opportunity to do it myself."

Very good article about Green. The relationship he has with his father is beautiful. Kinda jelly, not gonna lie. He may have an advantage over the other wide outs given that his father knows his poo and is one of the best CB's to touch the field.

I hope he does something here in Carolina. Him falling in love with Charlotte could be the Cam effect. Either way, good luck to him.

I think Gettis is safe barring any injury reoccurrence. AE is gone, IMO.

I forgot AE was still on the team.

So I guess the WR depth chart would look like this

Steve Smith

Brandon Lafell

David Gettis

Slot: Joe Adams/Chris Manno?

The only way AE stays is if they dump Pickles and keep AE as 3rd QB. Yeah, unlikely. He might get Practice Squad, who knows. I hope Green finds a place with the team and blows up.

AE has played too many games to be eligible for practice squad.

David Gettis is gonna have to work his ass off, Person also said Chris Manno was running very fluid routes, then you have Green who can get vertical quick like Gettis.

He did that his rookie year. He strikes me as the guy that thrives with competition. At worst he'll be #3 in the depth chart. At least that's what I believe. LaFell kinda earned that #2 spot last year. Barring any free agent signing that is.

Pilares, Adams will battle for that #4. That last spot will be chaos man. There's a lot of talent at WR.

we should/could have one of the best young WR corps in the league. may not have any "stars" emerge as far as stat monsters but as a solid and very respectable WR corps we could be great.

i think we have a QB and a system that can make good WRs great.

Ivan put the nail in, you hit it. Between Chud and Cameron, all they need is for guys to run the right routes. If everyone is on the right page, Cameron will hit the right guy.

Lafell is #2 at this time. (They did let NaNa go.) Gettis leads the rest, however that plays out.

Rivera is on record as saying, the best 11 will be on the field. So if I am right, that leaves 3 spots left. Adams probably has 1 as a PR, so that leaves 2. If Pilares is leading the KR race that would leave 1. Seeing that Adams and maybe Pilares may see limited time at WR, that would mean that there are at best, 2 spots open. This is going to be fun watching this all play out.

I see the talent. I see a QB that can utilize said talent. I see an OC, in Chud, that can exploit that talent. And lastly, I see Armanti needing a spectacular off-season to remain on the team.

Rivera pretty much let Mac run the D last year. They are both going to have a hand in the D this year. That alone says volumes. If a Panther fan cannot get behind that. There may be no hope for him/her. Even if only half of our injured players return, we are improved. If they all return, we are gold. I would go so far as to say we may be the gold standard.

I have been a fan for a long time. I am so old that I remember black and white TV. This is as excited as I have ever been. The Lions look good. And my Panthers look very good. I am in giddy heaven.

Gettis would have to suffer a major injury to fall any lower than #3 on the depth chart.

I have a feeling that Gettis and LaFell will play more on the outside than Smith does this year, who plays more in the slot than he has in the past. Adams and Pilares will be the other slot guys, which hurts Manno seeing as he is also another guy who seems like he'll strictly play in the slot. Might give Green the advantage in the competition on who sticks if all things are equal unless we plan on carrying 7 receivers.

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
