Steve Smith: A Slot Receiver In 2012?

Recommended Posts

So Chud will be gone before the season even ends? Wow, that is bold.

It is not the deciphering of the playbook. It is the ability to call one play that leads to the next. Which in turns leads to a play down the line. It is having the balls to call a play no one else even thought of. It is the imagination to use your talent to there fullest. It is the flexibilty to think outside the box, and have it translate to the field.

It is not the playbook we loose with Chud. It is his innate abiltiy to put imagination into reality. That is what we loose when Chud leaves. He has a first class mind, which on its own is impressive. But, the ability to transfer thought into reality is a rare gift. We best enjoy it while it lasts.

The anti Monkey hit. We ain't your steppin stone. Let it ring loud. Let ring from the mountains to the ocean. Leave our Chud alone.

8 months from now it will be January of next year. I hope I am wrong, but I stand by my statement.

Getting back to the subject which is Smitty in the slot, how is that going to happen until we have a number 1 receiver on the outside? Gettis has not proven himself yet and LaFell is a number 2. Teams will still line up their best corner on Smitty no matter where he is, until we can show them that we have other weapons. I don't think we move Smitty to the slot until we find another outside threat. That is one of the reasons I like bringing in another veteran like Burress or someone like him.

John Fox and Ron Rivera both know Chud has a shot as a HC.

I just hope that we have a young guy behind Chud learning how to run the offense the same way Chud does it. That we if he does leave, we can keep the same exciting playbook and nothing changes much. I doubt we would bring in an outsider as OC that runs a completely different style of offense.

Not exactly accurate.

Some teams may line up their best CB on the best WR, but lots of teams have corners play left corner, and the other play right corner.

Smitty played some slot last year. Moving him around is not a new idea.

I remember one of the topics last year being that he would move around more....so yeah this isn't a new thing at all.

I don't know what everyone's fascination with the slot is.

You really think they would ignore Smith and put their best corner on Gettis or LaFell? Teams put their best corner on Smith and roll safety coverage his way most of the time. If they were stupid enough to ignore him it wouldn't last a quarter before they made the switch. Kind of what happened in 2008 when we ignored Fitzgerald and he burned us until we put Gamble on him.
