Rivera Was Right To Keep Beason In The Middle

Recommended Posts

I like the decision to keep Beason in the middle. Beason has solidified the middle of our defense for years and was awarded multiple Pro Bowls for doing it. I also think that it shows support for players that do what they're expected to do and players that play the way they're expected to play, in other words, it shows loyalty. It is my belief that if you show player loyality, you'll gain player buy in. This is extremely important with/for veteran players. You don't move a player like Beason in favor of a rookie! I like Kuechly and think that he brings much needed quality depth at the LB position, not to mention his tackling ability and nose for the ball.

Nice article, I don't remember who made the comparison, but they said that in Chicago. Rivera centered his defense around Briggs and Urlacher. Kuechly and Beason are pretty much that. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I'd like to see what type of D he will cater to these two.

Did some of you seriously think a rookie LB was going to replace an All-Pro ILB & defensive captain in the prime of his career?

yes, some people did. some of the league "expert" analysts were saying the same thing.

beyond dumb.

I literally choked on my dinner during the draft after our pick was made & Mel Kiper Jr kept saying we needed an ILB & we finally had someone to be the captain & heart & soul of our defense. Then I grabbed my phone & did a quick search to make sure Beason hadn't died or been abducted by aliens. Then 2 weeks later he kept saying the same things over & over on NFL 32 & SportsCenter.

I literally sent Mel Kiper Jr a personal e-mail thanking him & showing my appreciation for his kind words of motivation. Beason got the messaged too, I saw some of his tweets. Jon is pissed! Mel disrespected the beast & he's gonna take it out on the league.

I don't think that many people thought that Keuchly would play primarily in the middle this year, but I still think that 2 or 3 years from now that Keuchly will be the starter there. He can play all three positions but I think that he is ultimately our long term solution in the middle.

“Who the hell is Mel Kiper

This tool on television who hypes up which ever draft prospect pays him the most. He's easy to spot, he has a greasy 1950's hair style & usually has a stick up his ass.

Beason should stay in the middle-if he is healthy. You cannot dismiss the severity of an Achilles injury and pretend everything is going to be the same.

They are right to start him there and keep him there if he is able, but get mad if you want--2010 Beason cannot play MLB for us. I feel that any of our 3 starters could play any of the other 2 positons.

There is a reason Beason is starting in the middle

There is also a reason Luke is learning the MLB spot and Beason will be asked to work at WLB as well......

Nothing new. Nothing has been said that wasn't expected when Luke was drafted.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
