Panthers: One Of The Least Popular Teams In The Nfl

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that when it comes to NFL teams, most people or a lot of people, don't pull for the home team; instead they pull for their childhood team, their fathers team, the family team, a winning team, the team with a player they liked or the most popular team. For me, it was the team with a player that I liked, Jerry Rice (49'ers). I swithed to the Panthers in 95 and haven't looked back.

This is true.

I never made the switch. Just couldn't do it and i pretty much raised my kid to be a Redskins fan too. If she wanted to become a fan of another team i wouldn't of had a problem with. Well, any team other than the Cowboys but i'll admit i put it in her head to like the Redskins. She pretty much likes every team i like because she grew up with.

What's funny is my family didn't follow this and we're probably the minority. My grandfather was from Boston so he was a Patriots fan. My dad was born in Charlotte, a rare thing today, grew up a patriots fan but oddly enough become a Bucs fan. When the Panthers came to town he became a panthers fan.

However I was a Panthers fan when they first came to town. I was 6 then and it's been fun seeing how things change over the years. I was so upset when the Panthers lost to the Packers in the NFC championship I cried. Before anyone knocks me I was little so don't hate :)

The young generation of Panther fans is growing every year. It will be interesting to see what the team is like at the 30 year mark. Hopefully a Lombardi or two.

True, the Carolina Panther fan base is growing every year. The addition of Cam only helped it grow faster. If our front office can continue to make good decisions that increases wins, that'll push us up the chart.

Thats just the way its been. I hope that I'm still around when more fathers, like myself, teach their kids to be Panthers.

I have no problem with our ranking. Who gives a crap about national popularity. If I wanted to join the popular bandwagon I would be a Giants fan or a New England fan. I like not being a lemming and doing what everyone else does.

For those who care about the team's popularity, the answer is simple. Once we can consistently win and make the playoffs a few years in a row we will be considered popular. I for one don't care a bit about the popularity but I would love the winning and playoffs......................

I think the better word should be followed not popular. We are a small market with very few superstar personalities until Cam.The NFL rarely mentions the team unless it is a by product of discussing Cam .We have never had a coach or owner that talked a lot of smack. We typically do not bring in well known or controversial FA I think with Cam here all that will change if his popularity continues to rise.Dallas may be the most popular team but also is the most hated team.

This is true. It's funny up north its the opposite. I met a few people in NY that have never been to a college football game.

Up north you see steeler, eagle, giants, and jets jerseys every where while it's UNC, State, Clemson, and South Carolina here.

College has been the king of the south forever.

That and more people from the north move south bring there like for their favorite team.I go back a ways but when the steel mills closed we had a huge influx of people from Buffalo and Pittsburgh..We also have alot of yanks that come down for college and never return.
