David Stern asks Jim Rome if he still beats his wife

Can't say I'm a fan of either guy, but talk about a low blow. Kudos to Rome for keeping his cool after that kind of comment. How great would it be if Stephen A. Smith turned around and asked him the same question about the fix.

Yeah, the funniest part of the video was definitely when Stern implied that Stephen A. Smith was the paragon of journalism.

You guys do realize David Stern wasnt actually accusing Jim Rome of beating his wife, right? Its an expression that is used as a common example of a loaded question- basically David Stern was accusing Rome of asking him a loaded question. Though to be honest Rome's question wasnt really a loaded question so much as a Jim Rome being a dick.

His goal was to piss off Stern (he was never going to learn anything useful by asking it), and I wish he had actually brought up specific reasons why people think the lottery is rigged rather than going with the "well people are talking about it being rigged"

No, that was Stern being a complete asshole. It was a legit question. That comment may be the end of Stern.

Just because it is a legit question doesnt preclude Jim Rome from being a dick in the way he asked it. Though I may be biased since I think Jim Rome sounds like a dick every time he opens his mouth

Realistically you are never going to learn anything from asking the commissioner of the NBA whether his league is rigged, but you can at least back up your accusations with evidence rather than "people are talking about it"

    • Aho…come out and prove me wrong boy.
    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
    • I have no doubt the Canes will come out like gangbusters, huge bounce back from game one - my only concern is Freddie, if he lets in a couple of softies and Dobes stays hot we could be in trouble.
