Do you feel that Steve Smith has wasted his talent here?

I mean, look at the QB problems we had before Cam. The demise of Delhomme, the underachiever in Matt Moore, the worst QB in Panthers history with Clausen, the horrible offensive coordinator in Jeff Davidson etc. Truth be told-- Steve should have hit 10,000 yards two seasons ago. Even though Steve is still a force now, it's a matter of time until father time catches up with him. So he could end his career with respectable career stats(probably not spectacular) without any HOF consideration.

Anyone ever wonder what could have been? I appreciate Steve's loyalty in staying here the remainder of his career, even though he had people around the league telling him to leave and Chris Harris/Peppers trying to recruit him to Chicago, he still stayed here.

wasted? There is no telling what would have happened to Smitty elsewhere, while Delhomme isn't Peyton he isn't Ryan Leaf. Who knows if Smitty would have ever even had any chance if he was on the lowly Browns.

If you think his career is a waste you have exceedingly high expectations.

Hey, it's never a bad time to give props to what is arguably the greastest Panther of all time. I mean, how many threads does it take until Steve is adored properly?

I don't think he wasted his career. Careers are what they are. I will say that if he finishes off with a flourish. He will get all the accolades he deserves. Maybe voters will take into consideration that even with all his stats, he only played a handfull of years with an elite QB. Impressive career? I say yes. HOFer. I say, I wish I had a vote.

Umm... No

Steve smith is quite possibly the greatest receiver I have ever had the privilege of watching his entire career. He had his problems of course but no matter the obstacle or terrible offense he was a part of his star still shined bright. Steve smith and waste should never appear in the same conversation. There is but one 89 and he should be respected and honored as the greatest panther of all time.

Time to highjack the thread...

Who thinks Josh Gordon would be a good receiver to pair with Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell, David Gettis, Kealoha Pilares, and Joe Adams?

That way, when Smith retires we already have our future in place at the wide receiver position with Josh "Flash" Gordon, Brandon LaFell, David Gettis, Kealoha Pilares, and Joe Adams...

Maybe a third (we have no fourth) or fifth round pick in the supplemental draft.

      If Brooks is fully healed,and they think he is, then we should be better.  We upgraded center and Hunt will be back.   At RB, Rico will turn 28 next month. Hubbard turns 27 next month.  Brooks turns 23 in July.  If Brooks pans out, he was a better college RB than either Rico or Chuba. He has not been taking a beating for 2 years--so if the knee holds, we could have something.   This is what it says about RB: Career Average: Running backs have the shortest average careers in the NFL, lasting just 2.57 years on average. The Peak: Most running backs reach their absolute peak performance around age 25 or 26, with nearly all peak seasons occurring before age 29. The "Age 28-29" Cliff: Statistical data shows a notable 15% to 25% drop in per-game fantasy and offensive production as backs transition from their age-28 to age-29 seasons. Very few running backs sustain elite production past age 30.

      I’ll give him that. I love his belief in the trenches being where games are decided. Because that is also my belief.  And he is not fooling around he jumps all over a goal. Fix the OL. Well it cost but he fixed it.  And fixed it again this year while still getting pieces for the defense.  He has made a couple of mistakes but just keeps swinging after a miss until he gets something done.
