The Panthers will win the NFC South

Division champs just don't repeat in the NFC South, so don't expect the New Orleans Saints** (with all of their troubles) to come out on top. This year, it will be the Carolina Panthers (as I told Steve Smith during hisvisit to the Dave Dameshek Football Program). Scoff all you want right now, but remember me when the Panthers knock off the Giants in Week 3 on NFL Network.

The Panthers are clearly starting to get some more love.

It kind of reminds me of the generic publicity in 2008.

It's not far-fetched. There are 11 projected starters on this year's team (not including Stewie or TD) who were on that 12-4 2008 team in some capacity (whether a backup, rookie, platoon, or starter). So when analysts speak of the Panthers as an up-and-coming team with a lot of inexperience or youth, it irks me. It irks me more when guys like Bill Barnwell on Grantland poke fun at the Panthers for spending all the millions they did last offseason keeping together "the core of a 2-14 team". Cam's inexperienced. So is Amini. So are the WRs outside of Smitty. But otherwise we've got most of the o-line, RBs and defense intact from 12-4. And now we have Cam instead of the Jake who suddenly and sadly got the yips. Not guaranteeing a division title by any means, but most of these guys know how to win because they've done it before.

Did he put an asterisks on the Saints**? Is that why it's doubled?

I just like seeing the asterisks getting longer and longer.

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
