Brown's attorney Don Karpel told TMZ he plans to sue the Century 16 theater, which is owned by Cinemark, for having an exit door that was not equipped with an alarm or guarded. (Holmes reportedly left the theater through the exit door, propped it open and returned with his weapons.) Karpel also said he may sue Warner Bros for releasing violent movies that may have inspired the shooter, as well as the suspect's doctors, if he had any, for hypothetically not monitoring James Holmes' mental condition properly.

That publicist and attorney are taking a bit of gamble with their own lives going public like this. Obviously threats against them will start which isn't anything new. I remember over a decade ago a woman tried to sue Oreos for contributing to her weight issues. Within a week after going public, her attorney dropped her because of all the death threats against him and his family.

Hope these people are having their mail, email and telephone calls closely screened, because it is going to get ugly. No sympathy from me however.

Tort reform

So you dont want to let the free market handle this one?

I agree though, we need more government regulation in this area. I'm thinking some sort of punishment for lawyers who bring frivolous lawsuits and make it easier for judges to throw stupid cases out quickly

    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen.
    • That is literally what I am talking about. Those were 53 man cuts. Not at the beginning of camp.  I would say the odds of Barno being back are extremely thin.
