CHARLOTTE – Linebacker David Nixon will be the newest member of the Panthers, pending him passing a physical on Friday when he reports to training camp at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.

The addition of Nixon will provide depth at the linebacker position as the team enters training camp. Three of the nine linebackers already on the roster – Jon Beason, Thomas Davis and Jason Phillips – ended last season on injured reserve, a year in which injuries forced Carolina to start eight different linebackers.

Nixon, who participated in the Panthers' three-day rookie camp as an invited tryout player in May, has played for three different NFL teams. Undrafted out of Brigham Young in 2009, the 6-3, 225-pounder has seen action in 15 games for the Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans and St. Louis Rams.

Yeah, yeah

Super Bowl?

Who?

The David Nixon?

And all that other sh*t...

every yahoo in here wants to be a comedian and I am guilty of it as well. fact is that we are much more active this year it seems than we were in the fox era. I think coaches likely have two views on FA. One being fox-like where you only show signs of life when a can't miss home run becomes available in the area that anyone and everyone who has ever watched a Panther game understands is a position of great need. The other being the active pursuit to stockpile young talent and effort guys who can be acquired on the cheap.

One strategy creates an environment where the players have the power and the other creates the environment where the multimillionaires better keep their game tight and their head right or they put themselves at risk to be Vince Papale'd.

I'll take the later all day any day in spite of the budding comedic careers it may spark around here.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
