Why Clausen and Edwards are Panthers

Ok. Then why are they here? Why have other hung around painfully longer than most teams generally allow?

You don't believe a guy who drafts players would like to boast about his roster being largely made up of guys he drafted? Sure does sound like he is a good drafter compared to everyone else.

Ellison was cut after 1 season(3rd round pick)

Carolina Panthers

Ellison was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round (89th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. He was waived by Carolina during final cuts on September 3, 2005, and re-signed to their practice squad two days later. On September 14, 2005, he was promoted to the 53-man roster, but was waived again on September 24, 2005. He returned to the practice squad on September 27, 2005, and was elevated to the active roster again on October 31, 2005, where he spent the remainder of the season as an inactive. He was waived by the Panthers on September 2, 2006.

Everette Brown was cut after 2 seasons(traded a 1st for him)

Carolina Panthers

Originally projected a first-round draft pick, Brown saw his draft stock falling because of questions about his size.[5] He was picked 43rd overall in the second round by the Panthers, who traded their 2010 NFL Draft first-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers to get that pick.[6]

With Julius Peppers still demanding a trade, Brown was shifted to the right side defensive end spot in June 2009.[7] In his first NFL season, Brown recorded 22 total tackles (15 solo), 2.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

On September 4, 2011, Brown was waived by Carolina after recording 6 sacks in two seasons.

I'm not doing any more wiki's but Norwood was a 4th round pick in 2010 and now gone after 2 years.

Rashard Butler 3rd round pick cut after 1 year.

Eric Shelton a 2nd round pick was cut after 2 years.

Corvey Irvin 3rd round pick cut after 1-2 years

No other top 4 round pick aside from Colbert or Jarrett were held on for too long.

Theres plenty more late round picks who were cut after 1 or 2 years. Clausen and Edwards are barely hanging onto the final spot on the depth chart at their respective positions are only in year 2 with Rivera.

In summary as you can Hurney is not afraid to admit failure in his drafts and will cut his losses after 2 years maximum in all cases not including Edwards and Clausen. They will likely be cut after their 3rd year or show improvement one.

How dare you bring logic into this thread!

Armanti was statistically the worst PR in the NFL last year. I really hope #2 isn't really a reason. I think it has more to do with the fact he got lucky (Gettis on PUP), he beat out UFAs for the job (Tutu, Green, Bryant), and will be really lucky to finish the year on the team (once Gettis comes back).

Munnerlyn is a better option as backup PR. He got 10 yards an average when he did it. AE had one of the worst averages in the history of the game.

I fully understand that Armanti sucked at PR last year, but what he didn't do is turn the ball over. Adams has a bit of a reputation in that regard. Munnerlyn hasn't been working at PR recently, and he has some fumbles in his history as well.

Think of the worst case...Adams fumbles in a couple of games and costs us a win or two. People will be screaming for the relative safety of a 5 yard Armanti return.

Here's an idea... Sometimes, there doesn't need to be an opinion or feel good reason. Sometimes, the coaching staff makes decisions based off of information that NONE of us have... To include Zod, and he's waaaay closer to the team than anybody is here. Hell, I'm sure he has all kinds of good info that he keeps to himself... And this right here is a prime example. People try to rationalize things to make themselves feel better about a particular situation... Nothing wrong with it at all, it's human nature. It's just that sometimes, you dont need to rationalize or understand it. It's beyond your control! Either you're a fan or you're not. All this fair weather BS is what annoys me about my own damned fan base.

The Organization made some decisions today... Maybe they were easy, and maybe they weren't. Maybe they'll even have some regrets... But maybe they won't! I love this team, whether we're 1-15, 2-14, 6-10... Or whatever we'll be this year. I'm tired of people moaning and bitching about personnel decisions.

This team's moving forward... With or without the bandwagoners or anybody else who would prefer to second guess any decision they make. Trust this staff. They made 1 mistake with Mare in their tenure... And have since rectified it. Get with the program people.

If you truly believe that then you are not as big of fan you say you are or just don't understand football in general.....

Good day sir

P.S.-----Step off zod's junk brah

We have Clausen because resorting to your #3 QB is very rare in the NFL, so there really isn't a reason for us to go searching for another one.

We have Armanti because he's a good athlete that earns a low-depth chart roster spot.

No other reason, really.

No, I didn't read any of this thread past the OP, what of it?

The reason they are on the team is because individuals FAR smarter than anyone here thinks they should be. Period. No one here would ever even remotely have a chance to be a GM or HC. Everything this FO does is right compared to the viewpoints on this sitre because those individuals making the decesions are better than any one here. Not a hard concept to grasp.

And on the third day Marty Hurney rose from the grave

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
