Against a Payton-less Saints*...

What would you consider a strong outing for our defense after a relatively decent opening performance against the Bucs?

They still managed to rack up 32 points against a good Redskins defense and now they've got us. The Saints* playcalling was not as good and they just weren't as fluid as previous seasons but bottom line is that they still racked up a lot of points.

I think the other side of the ball will help out the defense if they can manage long sustained drives and not weasel out once they get downfield. With Stewart back I expect more efficient play and shorter 2nd downs. If they do so, we can control the tempo and our defense will be fresh. I'm not trying to put pressure on a second game for a rookie but if Kuechly steps up along with TD and our CBs play good enough...we've got this and go 1-1.

So yeah, realistically this game sounds do-able...If our defense can hold them to under 24 points we can win this thing pending our offense deciding to not play like an 8 year old trying to play madden.

I'd feel more comfortable if we held them under 17 this week unless Stewart is 100%. When that happens we should be able to 24+ on anybody.

I wouldn't be comfortable, I would be shocked.

If we can keep them under 24 that's a good outing in my book for how the defense has been under McRivera so far

    • Goes to S.C., great athletic traits, raw in some aspects, yeah he’ll be a Panther for sure.
    • Ive posted conspiracy theories about us being interested in him for months.  Hes an elite physical specimen with elite intangibles.  Hes got to show an improvement passing and reading defenses this season though.  If he does he will be the #1 pick.
    • Narratives change real fast because of how fast information travels these days and the need to generate clicks.  People said the Panthers were a great place for him to land but just because it was said doesn't make it true.  Was that true?  Did we have an All-star staff?  Did we have a good front office?  Did we surround him with talent?  Could the defense carry the load?  You have to squirt really hard to think it was just a bad rookie QB stinking it up all by his lonesome.   Saying the worst football teams have bad QB's is just low handing fruit.  It's the easiest thing to grab onto.  It could also be teams that have a bad coaching staff or no talent to surrounding the QB or a horrible front office.  It can also be a horrible QB.  To this day I think that T-Law going to the Jags might have ruined his career because of Urban Meyer.  I don't agree at all that Bryce's only good game of his entire career was against the Falcons.   Week 16 against the Cards (which is one of those last 3 games we mentioned) 36-30 OT win.  Threw 3 TD's Week 12 against KC 30-27 loss but Bryce went 24 of 35 for 263 yrds.  It was Mahomes magic that got us. Week 10 against the Bucs 298 yards in a close game with a passing TD and a running TD. We even had those flashes of what he could be in 2023 against the Packers, the 95-yard game winning drive vs the Falcons, or how he outplayed CJ Shroud with the win over the Texans. Especially in this respect you're not being truthful.
