I think JR will pull the trigger on this regime unless by some miracle we show some drastic improvement. This is clearly a bad hire at coach and should be obvious to him.I liked it when we hired him but teams just cant regress like the Panthers have.I would hope that Hurney is the first one to go.

As long as Hurney and Rivera (along with his staff) remain, I have zero optimism for significant long term improvement. And until Richardson dies, I have zero optimism we will replace them with competent people if we even can them in the first place. We might get the occasional hot streak and win a few games with them, but we will never be legitimate contenders.

I don't want to agree but I have to. This team has a lot of flaws when you are looking at personnel, Hurney has made some bad decision and they are all starting to show. If the Panthers don't get at least 6 wins this year I think Hurney will be shown the door. If this happen then it would put Rivera in a tough situation and new GM could bring in his own guy so their is a good chance if Marty is gone Rivera could follow. We have to get this things right as a team because just being honest I don't see any improvement from last year. You at least wont to see some improvement but I have spotted none. Its depressing if you a Panthers fan because we all want to win games and see our team succeed it's unfortunately we have to go through this.

I honestly don't know why so many people blame Hurney for this mess. We have the talent to win. The big problem is the coaching staff, IMO. Do we have holes? Sure. But we also have a damn solid young core of players put together by Hurney.

If he is fired, I don't want to hear everyone bitching the first time the new GM misses on a 1st round draft pick...

I would be willing to give Coach Rivera more time if things were different but this is not a winning stile of football. Last year he gets a pass for the lockout but this year it is all on the coaches and Hurney. I don’t dislike Hurney like some on here but I believe it is time for a new direction and you can’t do that without cleaning house. Let’s hope that JR sees the light and brings in a staff that instills pride back into the Panther nation.

Wow if Zod is saying this season is shot than it really must be over...

It really doesn't look like Rivera is the guy that will get us a Lombardi trophy. I hope they do something fast because this team DOES have talent.

We are one more top 10 pick away from the promise land...

Sophomore slump, people. Chill out. The future is still bright. Rivera, Chud, and Cam can get it going on (and, maybe Derm...I don't know). I would have never thought that even a level-headed Zod would go the way of the Huddle fringe. Let's get some more talent in here next year at key positions and hope that Gettis and Hogan can make a difference. We will be alright. Barring a Cowher (who isn't coming to Carolina) or a Gruden, I really don't see upsetting the apple cart. Yes, the apple cart. We just need to change a tire or two. We will be the pride of the market once everything comes together. You'll see.

It's not Cam that's the problem. Sophomore slump or not, this team has larger issues than QB play. In fact, Sunday aside, that's one of the bright spots looking ahead.

The larger issue is that Rivera, Chud, and McDermott don't seem to be the answer. Chud would be a solid O.C. with a head coach that actually managed his gameplan a bit and didn't give him so much rope to hang himself with. McDermott is a lost cause.

Rivera more and more reminds me of Tony Sparano in Miami. Tough talking coach, but still unable to instill discipline and motivate his players.

Hurney sure as poo isn't the problem. Cam isn't either.

    • It's not impossible to go from worst to first.  We kept Evero because anyone in there right mind knew our defense was destroyed by injuries, not the scheme.  Evero has been given a plethora of talent between free agency and the draft, not to mention getting DB back. I fully expect our defense to be very good.  I have no reason to think Jones would say something like that unless he truly felt like that.
    • We would’ve played Florida and lost in the 1st instead of the 3rd round.  Montreal would have been the 8 seed.
    • I can't get behind a purely subjective re-draft as a method of defining "top-10 QB" status. That invites bias based on vibes/hypotheticals and can ignore actual on-field performance. You and others have said that Bryce has to be a top-10 QB to justify the pick. That's a high bar, which I'm not against, but we need a clear, consistent way to measure it. When I bring up metrics that Bryce has registered in the top-10 in like BTT%, P2S ratio, catchable deep ball rate, etc... they're waved off as either irrelevant or the expected baseline performance. Meanwhile, volume stats like passing yards or win-loss records, both of which depend heavily on roster talent, health, and coaching, are treated as definitive. That's where the inconsistency kicks in. If no performance metric ever counts in his favor and the answer is always going to be "he should be doing that," then we're not evaluating him... we're just holding him to a curve he can't win against. If this is really about performance standards, then let's define them. But if it's just about confirming prior takes based on height and weight, then let's call it what is it and stop pretending that this is a football analysis discussion.
